At some point this was the worlds fastest production car...
http://gallery.consumerreview.com/ca...rescuardel.asp Not sure if it still is though. Wuss. |
>Claudius - it says +400kph, so at least 248mph.
Yes, I read that. But that's an ad. My question was if the actual top speed is known? |
and heres what i think claudius was on about 1991 - At the 43rd Bonneville Speed Trails, BLITZ / JUN Z32 has made a new world record of 419.19 km/h in the E/BMS Class. ... although his numbers are slightly different... ;) |
the chosen one ================================================== =================== "well i'm afraid you maybe wrong there Cosworth427 because every year they do the speed trials down at New Zealand and Veilsides skyline quite easily passed 327kph mark, which i believe if my maths is right is over 240mph. whoops miscalculation. yeah but note it didn't top out at that speed and some of the veilside engineers think it can go well over 400pkh+." ================================================== =================== Well if you made a miscalculation (by about 73 + KPH, why do still say I am wrong? Where is the evidence that Skylines can pass the 230 MPH barrier. Veilside engineers estimates mean NOTHING. Sorry. |
I thought the answer to what is the world fastest car was...
a hire car:D |
Edited as I am going frigging mad!
[Edited by P1Fanatic - 6/17/2003 8:21:04 AM] |
the worlds fastest car WILL/should be the Bugatti Veyron which goes on sale at the end of this year, From what ive read the claimed 250mph looks to be conservative if anything.
|
Everyone knows its the dirty, rusting Astramax van. Will always be looking to overtake no matter what speed your doing.
:D:D:D:D |
well heres the proof coswroth
spec: 1996 Nissan Skyline GT-R World Record Holder F/BGCC World Record Holder F=2 to 3 liter motor B=Blown (Supercharger or Turbo) G=Gas C=Competition C=Coupe · Two way average World speed record 233.217 mph (Previous record 219 mph) · Fastest speed pass was 238.481 mph oh unless my eyes are deceiving me, isn't this proof dat skylines can go the can break the 230mph barrier?:D |
and wouldn't you think veilsides engineers are more qualified than you to make judgement about there own car?
|
Davyboy - you beat me to it!! I was gonna post those up!:D
(Defo on the shopping list when my six numbers come up;)) |
The chosen one
Are these Skylines road legal? I said 230 MPH did I? My bad, I was using my friends computer at the time so I didnt really have much time to re-check my post. Here's a quote of what I orginally said in my first post. "Sticking on a big body kit and boosting the engine to make 1400 HP without consideration to gearing and drag on a Skyline won't make it do 240 MPH or anywhere near that. Although I like to see a source that claims that they did. Sorry Fast and the Furious fans." |
I seem to recall a street legal ex Le Mans car which was a bit special. Will try and dig out the information.
|
There is a Porsche out there that is a highly modified 911. as in its a 911 shell with a Le Mans engine. It was at last look in the Guiness book of records for faster street legal modifed car.
I can tell you its bloody quick. |
That's the 935 isn't it? The Moby cars were street legal. And Krammer made some mad 935's which were all street legal.
|
Surely one point must be clarified........ the fastest production car must be as it left the factory.

|
The post never asked for the fastest production car. I thought it asked for the fastest road legal car. There is a difference.
|
How do you prove that then!
Loads of modified supercars all claiming to be the daddy! |
In saying that a lot of production figures are also a little weighted. Down hill with a brisk North Wester up your freckle.
I know I'm nowhere near it but I'm happy for now. I'll take a blinding 0-100mph time over 250mph for everyday use thanks. [Edited by dosenöffner - 6/17/2003 4:30:35 PM] |
still the 'vette sledgehammer?
|
Ok, you made me look it up. Apparently Callaway timed the Sledgehammer at 254,76 Mph back in 1989. |
dosenoffner, according to Norbert Singer, and he should know:D, there was only ever one Moby Dick 935 & it definitely was NOT road legal.
The original road legal Le Mans Porsche was a 917L built for a french gentleman in the early 70's, & Joest put some 962C's through German type approval in order to qualify for the race one year when the regs changed (1988?), they were easily capable of 250+mph down the pre-chicane Mulsanne:eek: |
I can't believe that you've all forgotton about Micheal Knights 1982 Pontiac Firebird, well over 450kph as seen by millions on television!
Dom. |
dosenöffner : not the 917 no , its been created from scratch , quite quick it is too ...
|
still the good old corvette still:D
|
the JUN auto akira 2000 toyota supra did 249mph at 2001 Bonneville speed week. over 1000bhp from a 3.2 twin turbo.
