Im sorry but there is no way a subaru is better looking than a escort cossie,no way,
as to the road holding there is probably not alot to choose between the two http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gifMy escort like shauns old cossie produces 340bhp and I have had no probs whatsoever and it gets caned often! and does not run out of steam!RoShambo how can you get bored of a cossie the tuning potential is excellent. Harj Why not get a traders policy for the cheapo runabout cossie, and buy yourself a R1, all on the same policy http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif barksie - escort cossie owner http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif smiling all the way to the redline! |
I owned a 2wd saphire cossie at the time when I was 21 it was my dream car , but that didn`t last long when the servicing cost where over £200 for just a minor service and every time it went in for a service it needed somthing like brake pads all round, then one of the pistons was seized on the front calliper , then the crap hand brake adjusters seized resulting in the purchase of a rear calliper. Finally the nail in the coffin was the fact that it used nearly a sump full of oil every month!!!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif
But on the bright side it was very good fun to drive , you could power slide the thing all over the place in the dry and just have the most fun outside of sex in the wet :-) In the end the running cost forced me sell it and get a legacy turbo which had a superchip fitted and 236bhp and the finally after 18 months of that I got my first taste of the Impreza bug and I`ve been hooked ever since , the best acr I`ve ever driven is the STI that I own now . On the road car front i used to own a 2WD sapphire Cosworth (H plate) that i upgraded to 350BHP and used as my everyday road car and about 8 track days/year http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
I have run numerous Forest rally MK2 Escorts including a BDA RS1800. My rally team curently runs a full spec group A Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 with high compresion engine and WI/ALS etc. It runs 9" rear diff, 7.5" front and 50/50 torque split. We led the BTRDA for half of last years Silver star championship, but are reshelling the car at the moment. I bought my scooby as a company car and have never regreted it, i sold the sapphire road car as it made no sense having two similar cars in the garage and i came over all sensible http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif I missed the power delivery and handling of the 2wd sapphire after a while so i lost the plot completely and i now run a westfield ZEi 220. This is a factory built car that is fitted with an Escort Cosworth Turbo 275BHP engine, it runs a cossie rear diff and a Borg Warner T5 box from a 2wd cossie. So you could say i sort of own an RS again, just that it is half the usual weight http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Cossies are fantastic cars, the 2wd ones are the best and the fastest, they just take a bit of money and proper preperation to make them work properly. Sadly there is a lot of crap cossies out there now, mine have never been among that list. Where am i from? Manchester area. |
Although I do not own a Scoob, I have owned a 1980 MK11 RS2000 Custom, which was modified to Group One spec. LSD and a set of 44 down draught webbers which would suck in small children from several feet away.
At the time I thought this was the dogs do dahs but alas I think any hankering back to those days is just misty eyed nonsense. Yes it was fun and charismatic but I suspect that a 1.6 Focus is now quicker and more efficient. I have to agree with Blubs though......I would have PLO365W back anytime. |
I had a 1980 MK2 RS2000 custom in black. Great car it was my pride and joy at the time. Saw it a few years ago on a rally and it still looked good having obviously been looked after since leaving me about 15 years ago.
Cheers Chip. |
