I refer to them as "neds", yet the term on Scoobynet seems to be "chavs".

However, if I see someone of an older age, "ned" doesn't seem appropriate. "Chav" is perhaps the mature form of "ned"?

Suffice to say, had to sit near 2 neds on the train the other day. Real proper Fife neds on their way into Edinburgh on a Friday afternoon for a session. Both had a bottle of Buckfast in their hand, with a mobile in the other. Discussion revolved around their mate who had "bopped" someone on the nose the other day. It was true Fife ned banter. I am not joking when I say that NO-ONE in England would understand a word of what they said :)
