I went to see my health visitor last week as I was feeling so low because of Adam not sleeping.
He still has feeds in the night so she suggested that this was just habit now not because he is hungry. She suggested we water down the feed a bit each night so eventually he will be having very dilute milk with the aim of offering water in the end.
Now I know if I offered him water we would have world war three but the watered down milk seems like a good idea.
He is then more hungry in the day so I'm getting more solids into him.

So last monday I took major action and moved his cot into his own room.
He looked so small in there but we had to do something.
I've been watering down his milk and at the moment its 8oz of water and 6oz of milk.

So far he's still getting up at night...... but some nights have been a lot better :)
I am getting a bit more sleep and he appears to be more settled.
I think we must have been disturbing eachother.

The docotor said we could give him some fenegran??? spelling? something to help him get into a better sleep routine. But I'm reluctant to give it but I know its there as a last resort.

I'm so sorry to hear things are no better

I think our main problem is not wanting to feel guilty about not taking good care of our babies, when in fact, all they are doing is running rings around us all :D

hmmn typed that wrong, she had a massive bump, it dissapeared after a couple days from birth

scoobypreza 22 January 2005 03:36 PM

yeah Adam did too but the CO explained how this can cause problems for years.

Really worth checking it out though don't you think?

Couldn't agree more. Make an appointment. Going along the the Cranial Osteopath saved our sanity, and gave us a much much happier and healthier baby which we were able to love wholeheartedly. No exaggeration there either. I hadn't seen my wife for 8 months other than to 'swap sleeping shifts'

Another vote for the CO here too. He turned helped to turn our little Mike from a cry baby into a little cherub within a month. Our medical insurance has picked up the bill, so this type of treatment *is* recognised by the establishment even though your average GP would disagree.

Good luck!

Hello

In the nicest possible way -- I hate you!

My 4 year old still comes to my bed at 2am.

Steve.

In the nicest possible way, my 9 year old daughter doesnt. I miss that :(

I was a terrible sleeper as a child. I'd always be up at 5am and had a reputation around the school for videoing the childrens cartoons in a morning(including the birthday mentions, hence the reputation - people relied on me when they forgot to tape their kids mention ;)).

I've hardly changed. My sleeping is still dire, though I had a few lazy years as a teenager. I go through phases - for a few years, I'll get 6+ hours per night. And then I'll get 2-5 hours for a few years...

Just thought I'd mention that ;). I'm 25 now, by the way...

My daughter was the same, exceptionally intelligent and never seemed to need sleep and never slept during the day even. I went through the 'ignore' thing when she woke during the night and eventually it worked. Also, I left her a very diluted fruit juice drink in case she did wake up.

As a matter of interest Apples, does your daughter drink a lot of fruit juice ie Orange, Ribena etc during the day? The Consultant I saw about my daughters sleep pattern told me that fruit juices could make some children very hyperactive. This was the case with my daughter, as once I started to give her very diluted fruit juice/squash, she slept for much longer times during the night.

actually yes, she likes the fruit shoots

and normal dilute orange etc wouldnt say she drinks to the extreme though

If you look on a bottle of squash it'll say, dilute it more for toddlers. Try doing that and see if it makes any difference. It made a huge difference to my daughter.

Lovely little girl. Looks like you might have a genius on your hands. :)

Worth getting that sleeping checked on though.

My boy loves the fruit shoots also, but I can't bring myself to give them to him unless they're diluted first. I'm a big fan of the Robinsons low sugar Apple and Blackcurrant myself (as is he!), but the original mixture is so stong it's sickeningly sweet to the point where I can't drink it. I normally tip about a third of the original bottle down the sink and refill with cold water to bring a more acceptable strength.

Just to add if he gets his hands on an undiluted bottle and you then try and take it away he goes bananas!!!

Joolz :D
