Only managed a lowly 135 in my STi (up the A84 in France - to make sure I didn't miss the ferry in Cherbourg) :)

I love driving in France - roads are a lot less busy and more straight. You don't see many (if any) other Scoobs over there either), so it's fun when you get a little Pug 206 trying to push you... Foot down... What 206? ;)

maci 01 June 2005 03:16 PM

Took my bugeye '02 WRX till 230 km/h (around 140 mph)last time I've been in Germany. Good thing the autobahn btw:) It is completely standard, the speedo showed this so, in reality I guess it was less. Thing was I had aroud 5800 rpm in the 5th and the pedal was not completely floored. I didn't pushed it for more since I had still low mileage. But good thing is that in a month I'm going to Germany again, so I'll check it again:)

hawkthescoobslayer 01 June 2005 03:19 PM

dammit I was fast but not in a scoob ;)

Yes, thats from a STANDING start, it took just 1.25miles to get to 190mph, and it was still accelerating.

Its very simple, the classic has the same ratio gearbox as the newage wrx, that was set to 167mph@7000rpm in 5th gear, the P1 also has the same ratio's as a few P1 owners have found out, the UK STi has a longer ratio of up to 183mph, though the Newage JDM Sti only has the ratio of upto 170mph, the 5th and 6th gears being shorter than that of a uk STi, though the 22B type UK also has a different 5th gear ratio, longer than its JDM counterpart, though off hand i dont know what this equates to.

*On a private test track* I saw between 150-155mph indicated on the speedo in my MY03 WRX. Standard apart from WRSport backbox and momo gearknob..LOL!!
So I guess that's around 145 in real time?

R19KET 01 June 2005 03:47 PM

AFAIK, STi 4 door ('97>'00), and P1's use 4.44 diff's, and use the same .738 5th as the UK.

This gives, based on standard tires, 21.8mph /1000rpm, on the STi's, and 24.8mph/1000rpm with UK cars running 3.9's.

Mark.

P1 cars do not have the same ratios as a UK box, they have Sti ratios with a longer UK 5th gear on 4.44 diffs and an 8000 RPm redline.
New age car has taller tyres so a new age WRX will be slightly different to a classic.
The UK sti is not gear limited to 183mph because it does not have a 7000rpm limit like the WRX, it will in fact do over 200mph given enough power.
22b UK does not have a different 5th gear, it has a different final drive.

Tony,

For the love of god, please check your facts before posting.

Paul

TonyBurns 01 June 2005 04:45 PM

The UK STi has a 7500 red line, the JDM car a 8000 rpm red line, its been worked out with the redline v gear ratio for the UK car, thus ending up at 183mph, as for the 22b, it DOES have a longer 5th gear over the JDM car as these cars were converted by Prodrive.

Where are all these "private test tracks"?!?!? :)

Don't tell me, that's private! :)

It's funny how big intakes, scoops and spoilers work against you top end. I have had a speedo reading of just of 145 in my standard Skoda Fabia vRS and in my chipped Volvo T5 it went off the clock at 160mph. So i guess the Fabia can do 130mph real speed and the Volvo does 150 mph real speed.

The problem i have had in the past, is that scoobys are a quite brisk to 100 - kind of where it matters - lol........

nice thread though

If using the 7500rpm limit, a UK sti will top out at 189mph, but there is no reason not to use 8000rpm on a modded car, certainly as anyone that has enough power to make 189mph will most certainly have a lot more power than standard.

22b UK uses the same 5th gear as the JDM car, but with a longer final drive, as these cars were converted by Prodrive. Check the SIDC FAQ here http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm

!!!!!!!!!200mph in a classic ? i would rather lick my own a'#e-hole.....96uk flat out at 153mph thats scary enough with the bonnet trying to take off.

hades 01 June 2005 06:45 PM

Tony - sorry M8, you're wrong with some of your numbers, unless you're questioning Subaru:

Subaru website states that WRX is 24.7mph per 1000rpm in top - i.e. 172.9mph at 7000rpm. As I have an ECUTEK, perhaps I have a slightly raised rev limit, but my 02WRX will pull somewhere about 7400rpm on the rev counter before hitting the limiter.

UK STi has slightly lower top gear at 24.5/1000rpm - clicky. I make that 171.5mph@7000rpm, 183.8mph@7500rpm or 196mph@8000rpm

156 in a 98uk with decat. on the M2 I beleive going towards margate.

why does everyone pretend that they used a 'private road' or 'private test track', just state which road you were on, gives a good impression of what motorways ppl used, no need to hide it ;)

absolutely!

i can thoroughly recommend the A41 between berkhamstead and Aylesbury
and the M40 eastbound between Beaconsfield and M25 junction! if you catch them at a good time (5am on a sunday in the summer) you can get a good reccy run and a fast run in wile the road is desolate. im not sure how policed the M40 is but it seem that its a long way from the birmingham bobbies and the met police are too busy chasing non-existant terrorists. saying that now ive done 137 ive got no ointerest in getting any more as the cars obviously not going to do 180 or anything remotely scary, id rather hurry up and finish building my racecar and scare the crap outta myself at brands hatch :D

new boy 01 June 2005 10:20 PM

surprised mr d didnt mention the bike he over took at 185?

anyway..my modded uk car has been off the clock a few times..my high end turbo timer(ie costs lots..saidys 270+kph)..witnessed..not by police!).the next day..going to collect andy f for a remap and it spun a shell.)

at the SSO3 i ran mid 150's in the flyer-the accurate 1.25 run.(with a near full tank of opti!)..
i'm a happy bunny re the car.

saw 155 on the clock sti7 PPP when the side window seals blew f...... noisy

Pavlo 02 June 2005 10:35 AM

The speedo typically reads about 10% fast at the high speeds mentioned. For instance an Sti 2 isn't geared to do a genuine 170mph, it should top out at about 166mph if bouncing off the limiter at 7500rpm (and the rev counter is often a few 100rpm out too).

Paul

P20SPD 02 June 2005 10:44 AM

When i ran the 189.7, the speedo was disecting the tripometer at the bottom of the dial, which is a good 20mm plus past the 180 max on the sti5 speedo.

ClintUK 02 June 2005 11:52 AM

A41 Alysbury - Watford is good as jimby says. Usually after a trip to Adams for an oil filter.

M62 Hull end in the evening has given a few high speed runs too. Took on and passed BMW Z3 at just under 140. Took on and was over taken by 911 at just over 140 (from rev counter - not enough time to look at speedo reading!)

Now want some mods so those pesky Porsches can't get away

Flash of lights on both occasions to acknowledge like minded drivers, top.

EBRWRX 02 June 2005 12:07 PM

130 mph (so probably nearer 125) in my PPP'd STI 05 was fast enough for me thank you. Naturally this was private land.

TBH I get much more kicks out of the car in 2nd-6th gear on a winding country road than I do in a straight line though I'm just as interested in everyone else's feedback on this thread.

Also be interested to see what the highest speed someone (on here) has been nicked at in a Scoob.

Yeah, that's what its all about, anyone can put their foot down in a straight line....and it's not that exciting (other than the fear of getting caught, which would most likely end in a ban and insurance premimums through the roof). You loose a lot of the sensation of acceleration and speed on a wide motorway.B roads are much more fun and you can have your fun legally!

South African record

We have a guy in our club who has done 296km/hr (on the GPS) he has had his rev limiter lifted (ECUtek) and is trying to break 300km/hr - MY00 model with 2.0ltr block with a few mods <grin>.
