Everyone seems to be real worried about the exterior design. I am more worried about the interior. The doors to be exact.

Subaru like many others are sticking big door handles on then slapping load of switches on. This is not good as it mashes my knee into the steering wheel rendering the car undrivable. This is one reason why I had to have a MY96.

Oyyy Subaru NOOOOOOO. Put the switches back to the top of the door or near the handbrake. No new Scoobys for me then.

Pete,

If the side airbags are anything like the normal airbags it's simply a matter of disconnecting the battery and allowing the capacitors to drain and then disconnect the plug to the airbags. Throw ****ty seats away (being careful to discard of the un-exploded airbags carefully etc etc..) and put some decent seats back in (maybe some '01 5 door seats!)If I had one I'd dump all the airbags as I've done on the current car!

Nito,
what seats do u have in your car then? Is there any chance to have sport seats with 4 or 5 point seatbelt but not lose backseats for use? Do you think MY01 seats are worse than MY00 standard or same?

NITO 16 October 2000 12:29 AM

Hi Tibor,

My car is a '98 model which doesn't have airbags in the seats. I was referring to the driver/passenger airbags which I've removed on mine.

The new model apparently has airbags in the seat and will not be offered without them until next year. The new 5 door however will be getting the new sports seats straigtaway.

As for 4/5 point harnesses, I haven't a clue. There has been a thread recently regarding these. I think you will lose the function of the rear seats but IIRC that threads says that some can be disconnected allowing you to use the normal seat belts in the event that you need the rear seats (ho-hum)!! I couldn't tell you which harnesses these are though, perhaps someone else can?

As for '01 seats being better, I haven't seen the 5 door seats, but the new 4 door seats with airbags aren't as deep as the '00 model.

What is semi-automatic air conditioning? Is that with a dial for temperature control rather than a digital exact temperature control unit?

tibor 16 October 2000 09:31 AM

someone here said there are pics of MY01 interior on subaru japan web page. I couldnt find there anzthing else but old impreza photos and latest "hot news" was from april I guess. Can anyone give address to updated factory pages?

Gotta search a bit.. it's not in English. But hit the upper Jap-link in the left frame, then hit showroom, scroll down... voila.. the NewAge! Lots of small pics. (and quictime-movs of honking horns http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif )

Yep, all as I have heard.

Colours are Deep Blue Mica, WR Blue, red, silver, white. I've ordered one in WR Blue.

Price quoted as £21500

I am a bit peeved about the seats. Being linked to the SRS system, it may not be that easy to change them.

In my Volvo, the sidebags have a simple switch in the chair itself. The only thing leading to the chair being 12V. Replacing the chair would be simple.

thanks mate I got pics, dont u know will UK MY01 has same specification as japanese one on subaru web site (250hp)?

Dippy 16 October 2000 01:30 PM

No, that's just analogue control vs. digital.

I guess that semi-automatic refers to the fact that only the fan speed is automatically controlled, not the temperature of the air. Since there are only 4 fan speeds, this would only provide a coarse control of temperature.

It is rather ironic that I was happy to hear that the MY01 has side airbags. I'm a bit peeved to discover that I won't get any in the wagon!

Never mind, having had first hand experience of writing off an MY00 wagon by hitting a tree broadside, the driver's door taking the full force of the impact, I can gratefully say that the chassis is so good that side airbags are not needed.

Looks like I can enjoy better seats in the wagon than those of you who buy the uglier sedan! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
