I opt for driving below 3000rpm for the first ten mins then drive off boost for the final couple of miles prior to arriving at my destination. Only time i tend to sit on idle is when i have just left a motorway and entered a service station.
Simple and effective.

30 Second - Longer Turbo Life

I remember when I had my 200SX reading about the 30 second rule in the manual.

allow tick-over for 30 seconds before driving off, then allow 30 seconds idle before turning off to allow the oil to drain from the turbo.

Well not sure if this applies to modern cars (my nissan 200SX was the 1996 model of Mark II ) - maybe things have moved on.

BTW - my 200sx had done 112k miles on the orginal turbo when i sold it.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, suppose they make most things for a reason, but when they don't work with alarms, you can't leave your car running on it's own (legally), and it's giving you a reading of 5 mins or so after a 15 mile 'sensibly driven' journey, I just don't see the point in them anymore.

Cheers,
