Well yes part-throttle surging was totally down to the DV/FMIC combination. OE DV totally cured it. Interestingly, the Forge DV never gave me any trouble on the standard v4 TMIC with the silicone inlet and K&N induction kit. It was only as soon as the FMIC went on that it put everything out of whack. Which is now necessitating the return to OE inlet pipe as well.

I have just got hold of a recirc kit for my ssqv need some pipe to fit it,hope this cures it!!

I never pulled apart a classic car inlet, so I didn't realise they were a step down size wise from newage ones.
If it makes obtaining a bigger inlet easier, the newage blob WRX inlet is the same as an STi.
The Spec C is still the one to get but is much, much rarer.

Further info for you, I spoke to a friend that worked at Mahle powertrain (nee Cosworth technology) and he explained that straight inlet flow can be critical on reducing surge, in fact the apparently restrictive flow straighteners often make more power. The Scoobynet 'project' type-C suffered surge when a full induction kit was fitted, my guessing is that it was for this very (non 'straight' flow, reason - and of course thats on an IHI turbo), I assume with an FMIC you are running at least some sort of induction kit?

Yes the induction kit was a necessary evil unfortunately. The thing is, just to avoid any unexplained problems, I fitted the induction kit a few weeks before doing the FMIC install and I never had any surge problems. It was only when adding the FMIC that the surge started.
