I do have a positive story about them actually!

Twas the last footy game of the season (crunch match which we needed to win to avoid relegation) Anyhoo met the lads as per norm at 12, started on the bevvy as you do, and we were hammering it :DWent in to the game half peed lol and we won, we then hit the pub for a few more then onto the staying up party at the stadium, which was free and all you can drink for free :D

Well needless to say, with nowt to eat all day and christ knows how much beer, Guinness and Gin, I was totally rat arsed, I was so pished I accidentally fell over and dislocated a fat blokes knee as I hit it on the way to the floor :o

To cut a long story short, I said my goodbyes and headed up the road, the only problem being my legs weren't working very well, so I decided to sit in the middle of a roundabout and text a Taxi :wonder: but couldn't even focus on my phone, even with one eye shut :D

A police car stopped and the two cops told me to get in, they asked what I was up to and why I was so pissed, so I told 'em about not getting relegated, the free beer etc etc and they gave me a lift home, her indoors met us at the bottom of the garden as she saw the police car coming into the street, I think she had a grumpy face on as one of the Cops said 'You can't be mad at him as he's got good reason to be in such a state' and laughed :D, after a bit of convo and a few laughs which I don't remember what they were about, they left saying 'have a good night'

Her indoors said goodnight and turned and walked up the path to the house, leaving me to negotiate the 3 paths up to the door, I took a few steps then landed head first in the Rhododendron bush, although she did help me out whilst muttering something! :D

I had the misfortune of having my bird table stolen earlier in the year. A very nice young chap turned up on a beautiful black-painted cast-iron bicycle and spent at least an hour scrupulously taking down details of the theft in an immaculate vellum notebook. He then spent four days making door-to-door enquiries in the local area, which resulted in an overwhelming body of evidence that pointed to the guilt of an itinerant odd-job man and street entertainer whom no-one trusted on account of his shabby appearance and colonial complexion. :)

I know a few police officers and you'd be hard pressed to find more pleasant people.

As for positive stories about the boys (and girls) in blue. A fair few years back I had a bit of an accident whilst driving (short version is that as I was overtaking someone, they decided to pull into my path, forcing me to avoid them by taking myself off the road). After getting their details, the other driver was very intimidating and rude, and made it clear they were taking my details and would "sort this out themselves". I decided to refuse to give my insurance details or contact information. I drove straight to the nearest police station, reported the accident, explained why I had not given my details to the other party, something I'd usually have no problem doing.

A few days later an officer turns up at work and wants to run through things with me. Very nice chappy, and said that the other driver was a real piece of work and he could clearly understand why I'd not want to give my details to them. Asked if I was going through the insurance, I said no, mainly due to the cost, he said "well, if you do go through the insurance company, here are their contact details ;)" which I thought was rather nice.

Sorry, cant think of anything positive.

Although they were very pleasant and helpful when as a young man I had an old bloke throw himself under my car on a dual carriageway. Good job the driver behind was a police sargeant who saw it all ......... sadly as well the old gent was killed. But you dont look good after being rin over by an artic! The scene ended up like something out of the Blues Brothers, cars everwhere, one upside down!

My saxo brokedown about 3 year ago when i was 19. Was in the middle of nowhere on a bad stretch of road. I called the cops. 2 nice coppers came out. Very helpful. Towed the car with their van to a nearby layby
Then took me 30miles back to my house :-)

Im assuming they dont usually do this.

Negatives.

I got done for tinted windows about 2 months ago in my Focus, fair do your not allowed front ones but i had only had the car 3 days. I said " yep will pull them off thats sound" then they decided to say my Alloys were illegal as they were not ford standard, then exhaust, then it been so low they were saying how i could loose my license blablabla. The women was a power mad slag. I never took any notice an ended up with a £30 fine for the windows..........

Was wierd how she kinda lost it about the alloys etc.

She obviously wasnt getting her filling at home

We would be a lot better off if we had far more traffic cops and less of the speed cams which only catch speeders, sometimes inaccurately, instead of the really dangerous drivers with no insurance, death trap cars, or just plain drunk.

None! Rather than *ahem* "catching real criminals", they are focused on keeping us where we are and "them" (That is the "elite" and politicians) where they are.

Copper once quite possibly stopped me from dying, got bottled after a xmas do once around 10 years ago, i was well p***ed stimbling about losing loads of blood, passing copper came legging it over and got a jacket off someone and stemmed the flow of blood, apparetly i was drifting in and out of consciousness. If he hadn't of been there or drove past its quite possible i would not have been here today

Broke down on my moped in the middle of nowhere at 9pm at night. pushed bike miles until i was nearly collapsing. Copper pulled me over in Wilmslow - when i told him what had happened he told me to park it at the back of this office block and he would keep check on it for me. further down the road i was pulled again (at 4am) coppers gave me a lift almost to my front door.

On a recent note on my fuel protest that i organized at Sheffield services i came out to find 2 scoobs and 6 police cars and a helicopter, after s**ting myself the head copper pulled me to one side and could not be more helpful and asked if we wanted to block the motorway, he also expressed his and his collegues gratitude at what we were doing, his exact words were 'me and the boys are tickled pink you are doing this' things changed for the worse when we got to South Mimms but that another story!

It is a thankless job and there are some little Hitlers out there but for the part they are not bloody robots and just want to do a good job.:thumb:

3 guys broke in house and held a knife to my throat for the scoob, i gave them keys and they went, rand police and it felt like i had every copper on the beat at my house within 5 mins, they found the car whitin 40 minutes in manchester and what really made it good was lancashire police paid for the back door to be boarded up and payed all recovery and storage costs :D

Believe it or not the only people the police try to upset are criminals, I've got no desire to wind up or disrupt decent law abiding members of the public, especially over minor motroing offences, 9 time out of 10 I feel that a word of advice has a better effect anyway.

I appreciate that as a victim of crime the "service" could be better, but unfortunately real life is not like CSI and it is difficult to track offenders down, and even more difficult to convict them unless there's some decent evidence.
