It just keeps getting better for the poor lad.

My first car cost £600 in 2004. It was a 1998 Renault Clio 1.2 RL with 102,000 miles on the clock. It was driven flat out everywhere for 6 months before I sold it for £675, with 126,000 miles on the clock. :lol1:

I wouldn't have paid that much for my first car, but each to their own. A first car in my opinion gets serious abuse from a young guy, so not much point in spending loads on it.

you will then be impressed of the condition of the 106 and then you might think about the price i have paid for it is reasonable amount!

+ plus its a first car at the end of the day not like im going to buy my dream car (subaru impreza P1) for my first car now isit!

looks similar to that mate but a 3 door version with only 41 000 miles on the clock less than half the one you sold!

It could be showroom condition and it is still worth about 500 quid.....

Mine was a classic 2 tone 1971 VW Beetle, in perfect condition.
Loved it, but I chose wisely and it appreciated £500 in 4 months.

You did pay alot, but hey, at least you didn't go and buy a cheap scoob and cane around in it without insurance. Starting out low and building no-claims is a good plan:thumb:

Anywho, yeah you've paid too much regardless of condition, and next time I would personally advise doing a little more research before jumping in. Been there done that with my first turbo Impreza - ended up being a dog. 2nd turbo (3rd Scoob) was a belter - live and learn mate.

I presume it's too late too pull out of the deal, as it does seem a lot of money to overpay some trader who's unfortunately seen you coming :cry:

CoB - We seem to be wasting our time, he has it in his head that it is a good deal because the miles are low (And i assume all the MOTs and service history back this up) ignoring that is its a 12 year old small french car, base spec, not a special or collectible model.

It may be in good nick, it may be low miles but it is old and not particularly desirable model and simply not worth what he paid for it. If he is happy then fine. He did not do his research prior to buying which is pretty much the biggest mistake you can make - if he did he would have realised that he was paying well over the odds. Ignore the miles, this is really irrelevant. the vehicle is 12 years old, it will be rotten, it will have worn suspension and the problems French cars have after several years, they are simply not built to last. I speak is the owner of a 406 2.1TD GLX which incidentally i bought for £ 1200.00 when 9 years old 1 owner, with a FFSH, brand new Michelin tyres, new brakes and suspension - all fitted by PUG dealer.

so much is set by this 40k miles less that 5k per annum average. In a lot of ways, especially on a car like this it would suggest an elderly owner/owners, short joiurneys, to ther post office, shops never quite warmed up. This would worrry me more than this sort of car with avergae miles as regard engine wear and even gearbox/clutch.

Scooby69er asked the 'how much?' question, he is not happy with the responses as they do not agree with him or his excpectation and now we are 'haters' I am sure when he get over the embarrasment of this he will, maybe be a little more wise with his money in future and also take some of the positive and constructive advice offfered by us haters:).

Everyone says you paid too much and you did. But what does it matter? If your happy with the car (well when you get it), stuff everyone else. You learn from your own mistakes matey, and most of us have been there and done it, whether we admit it or not! Enjoy your Pug. As mentioned, at least you have been sensible enough to buy something to 'learn to drive in' (learning comes after passing your test!) and that can be insured, and not gone and bought an old affordable performance car thats dropping to bits and uninsurable.

My first car was a Citroen AX GT ........ I paid about 300 quid for it off a mate

My first car was a saxo 1.1 base model i bought it 5 years ago on R plate £1200.

The insurance was more then the car

41k on a 12 year old car.........unless it has a shed load of documentation to demonstrate that kind of use and may be only one elderly owner in the log book, I would be seriously suspicious about that figure.

Seller must have been pretty chuffed with the result though.

I just hope it is in genuine good nick and reliable for you mate, at least you've got the right idea in choosing something small so you can build up your no-claims rather than paying £2500 for third party insurance.

Hi, for what its worth, i agree with most on here. £1500 seems double what you should have paid.

Firstly, body work should always be perfect, since they don't rust if looked after. I purchased a brand new 106gti in 2001 when i was 21. Car was great, quick and fun to drive. Mechanics where crap, i had it for two years and replaced everything under warrenty, drive shafts, wheel bearings etc.

A couple of years ago now when the wife and I where saving cash, we sold both our cars (clearing finance) and purchased two 106 diesels. Engines where great, body's perfect but mechanics again, really crap, everything breaks and stops working. We paid £650 for a 5 door at 86k and £390 for a 2 door with 118k.

Did the job, ok to learn in or save money, but will always be cheap as chips.

Im looking forward to seeing some pics ! :-) I like the 106 quicksilver model, but being over 6ft tall, and wide, I cant fit in them too well :-)

Got a bit of a likness towards those 206 GTi diesel mods. Good on fuel, sporty.

Mind you, being 37, Im more into family compliant transport now. Planning on a shogun lwd diamond for the wife and kids, and some sort of sport diesel for me, as I travel a bit.

ah- my first car at 17 was a 2.1 litre volvo 244 saloon.

back when insurance only had 7 groups I think and boy racers didn't exist.

you could get everyone in, in glorious comfort and waft about.

rather than buying these horrible little tin boxes on wheels.

Just bear in mind two things.....

1) realistically you are not gonna get a big chunk of your money back on it so keep it in good condition and make it last you. Keep it clean and please do not chav it up.
2) when the time comes to get your next car then also spend a bit of time on forums etc finding the realistic price.

nice car- might have done nicely but its a shame- I need a 5 door (well wife does)

i past my driving test in december 19th last year and was looking for a 106 since then ! viewed alot but they all were in bad contition compared to the one i brought which is imacualte condition!

i wont chav it up! dont worry
