Simon do you not find the t abit laggy on your car and how is it compared to the 20g?

Mus 11 February 2010 07:26 PM

Simon said he found the T to be more resposive than the 20g

andy f took of the md321t to swap for a 20g on TA event

just goes to show diffrent turbos work diffrently on diffrent setups

Andy hasnt done a TA event in his car that i am aware of.

He drove Mark at Lateral's the year before last at a couple of rounds.

I think he meant ScoobySprint ;)

Aztec Performance Ltd 11 February 2010 10:09 PM

Confusing as hell :lol1:

Mus 11 February 2010 10:16 PM

Tell me about it lol

joz8968 12 February 2010 09:06 PM

Can anyone tell me at what rpm the 18g and 20g make 1bar of boost and full boost by, on a 2.0L? How much earlier spooling is the 18g compared to the 20g on a 2.0?

Cheers.... :)

dynamix 12 February 2010 09:08 PM

avcs or non avcs ?

what gear ?

;)

joz8968 12 February 2010 09:14 PM

It'd be on the lowly WRX v.1 hyrdraulic heads.

Gear?... Er, whichever is tyically used for dyno runs, so as to keep some kind of like-for-like true comparison, I guess(?)

joz8968 13 February 2010 12:04 AM

Anyone?

full boost about 3700rpm in 3rd on the 18g, maybe slightly sooner and about 4000rpm on a 20g roughly.

Simon

joz8968 13 February 2010 12:21 AM

Cheers Simon.

So it really IS worth getting the 18g over 20g, when running the v.1 heads? >300rpm earlier spool in favour over a possible 20bhp extra top end (but not guaranteed anway!), is much more desirable on the road, agreed?

Jolly Green Monster 13 February 2010 12:33 AM

yes

joz8968 13 February 2010 12:36 AM

lol

Cheers ;)

Ozzy_B 13 February 2010 12:49 AM

same question as Joz...except on a STi5, rebuilt engine including forged pistons, STi 9 rods, recently rebuilt gearbox etc, 18 or 20G :wonder:

joz8968 13 February 2010 12:59 AM

Ozzy your heads can flow around 460-480bhp I think (maybe more), so you will get the most out of the 20g, as regards the extra 20bhp or so extra top-end it can offer over the 18g. Whether the heads' better flow allow it to spool up any earlier than 4000rpm though, haven't the foggiest :wonder:...... Simon?!! :D

Ozzy_B 13 February 2010 01:34 AM

Thats what I thought, but spool vs the extra Hp is what im currently undecided on, really do need to get my mind made up and get one bought though!!

Oh randomly, was reading this thread at work on a break, whilst talking to my manager, I then turned around to look at my manager and noticed her eyes where fixed on the screen, i then look back at the screen and notice your profile image smack bang in the centre...I think she liked :lol1:

Brilliant! A work bitch getting fruity! You should've taken your chances and 'siezed the moment'...... :norty: :D LOL

There's something about women in the workplace. I think it's simply to do with the lack of 'em - so your hormones go a bit mental lol..........

thought I'd bump this thread up, I am considering a 20g for my 05 wrx (along with 650's, fmic etc)

Out of interest what are the heads on an 05 wrx good for, would I be better getting a set of STI heads, I've heard the v5 are good

cheers
Iain

you will need a gearbox as well a friend ran a tdo5-20g on his 03 wrx mods were,
20g
front mount
pinks
full decat including up-pipe

that was meant to be running around 370bhp and killed the gearbox after a day of use, he then fitted a box out of 2.5 hawkeye wrx which lasted till he sold the car.

IainMilford 17 June 2010 01:19 PM

I know the box will be at risk but I have heard so much either way, a guy in my local club ran 395 bhp on a classic wrx, with over 100K on the clock for 2 years before the engine started to knock ... never had a problem with the gearbox. My car is only used at weekends and the odd track day so should be ok, when it goes it goes.

I want to know if my heads are ok, or if it would be better to change to a set of STi heads with different cams etc

harvey 19 June 2010 12:37 PM

TY754 gearbox fitted to Classics version 5 & 6 is far stronger than the TY752 as is the TY754 fitted to New Age WRX. The TY754 gearbox is perfectly capable of operating well beyond 400 bhp unless driven by someone completely lacking mechanical sympathy. Do not run a paddle clutch.

That's why I've just replaced my old aged 1993 WRX with a gorgeous gleaming white 1999 STi 5! Gonna fit my 20g/550s/FMIC, etc to that... :norty: ;) :D

Thanks for the info Harvey, and cheers for your time on the phone the other day, I'll be back in touch when I've got the funds together :D

Can anyone advise if I should look at getting a set of STi heads to replace my wrx ones?

Cheers

Jolly Green Monster 21 June 2010 12:55 AM

if you add newage sti heads you would need to sort out the AVCS wiring etc and ecu to run it.

Sti5/6 heads work well in the WRX though.

Simon

harvey 21 June 2010 08:32 AM

STi 5/6 heads are nice to have and a simple head and gasket change but it is a lot of work and expense for a modest power hike unless you are chasing top numbers.
