Exactly trying to compare a Netbook with a innovative and successful ecosystem is ridiculous.

what would scooby do 01 September 2011 10:20 AM

You have an ipad 1 you should be ashamed. All your friends and people full of win have version 2.

You MUST upgrade now.

Next month you must be on ipad 3 as all your friends and people full of win have version 3.

Month after next....

.. you get the idea.. :D

Get over yourself. It's just a tablet computer, nothing more! frickin' "ecosystem" indeed.

BORING !

Come on guys, I mean, what's the point in owning a Subaru when a Corsa can still move you around at up to the legal speed limit. In fact, why not buy a bus, which has more capacity for both passengers and luggage, or even a truck ! And who needs fillet mignon with morrelle mushrooms in a burgundy and crushed caper reduction when there's McDonalds ! Why wear Prada and Gucci when Primark do t-shirts for £1 and jeans for £4, and how much more capable of carrying stuff is a Louis Vuitton bag compared to an Asda carrier.

We all make our choices and spend our money as we see best for us, not each other. My own ideal is a Mac Mini under the TV as a media server and general computer, with an iPad for when others want the big screen. That may not suit you, but it is what I want and I have my own solid reasons which none of you will be able to change.

As for Flash, the argument is getting as old and redundant as the technology. We all know it is processor and thus battery hungry, so in portable devices it is flawed, and as portable is the biggest market in computing today, then Flash is not ideal. HTML5 tosses Flash in the bin, and just about all new websites are created in it, and many older sites are being upgraded. If Apple had ever considered it an important challenge they would simply have bought Adobe. If I were Tim Cook I might have done so anyway, and shut Flash down just to shut everyone up.

Not my term, often used by technical geniuses, try Google.

iOS has always muti-tasked, the experience was enhanced in iOS3 I believe, you're as far behind as your Netbook.

Gear Head 01 September 2011 01:04 PM

And when was that released? I could multi-task on Pentium 90 Packard Bell in 1994!

hodgy0_2 01 September 2011 01:24 PM

such a redundant debate

it is like argueing over whats better on a women, Tits or Arse

both look great but are used differently

we all know that PC users are beardy geeks with personal hygiene issues and a surplus of time (prob due to afformentioned "issues") and mac users are preening tossers who iron their Jeans and T-shirts

(i suspect most mac users are "arse" men btw -- repressed left handed batsmen if you will)

2007. The same day that Apple undeniably 'Changed Everything'.

You should remember the date it's like the 6th of the 6th, 66 to a Christian for an Anti Fanboy like you.

Hey, I can understand a Golf GTI being far better than a Bus, but I just cannot understand how an iPad is better than a laptop/netbook. It just isn't. Both do the same job.

That's where you're wrong - they certainly don't "both do the same job" and if you think they do then perhaps that's where you're failing as well.

I'm no huge Apple fan - typing this on a Windows PC, with about 4 or 5 other Windows PCs within arms reach and a Mac mini that never gets turned on - but whilst I have 3 full sized laptops and 2 netbooks at home, if I'm casually surfing the net whilst sat on the sofa then it's the iPad that I use.

There's so much more to an iPad that it being a simple replacement for, or alternative to, a laptop/netbook.

That's what everyone keeps saying, but nobody can give real, true examples of why?
Please share some examples?

Am I right in saying that the iPad is best suited to surfing the web, reading ebooks and running apps from the app store?

JackClark 01 September 2011 08:18 PM

It's the way the apps use the available hardware. What you seem to miss are the multitouch interface, motion sensing, gyroscopes, gps and more. All of these are being combined to produce innovative software. The application industry has been given new life via iOS, when was the last time you bought an app for your Netbook? Probably never. There are now billions of pounds being spent on iOS apps and as they're all tested your quite safe doing so.

I'm loving Djay and Garage Band, two apps that can't run on anything other than a tablet.

I'm about to board a plane, my iPad is loaded with books and I've just bought a movie to watch, all in a couple of taps.

Maps have never been better, Memory Map is excellent, I'd rather pull out my iPad than try to balance a Netbook.
