Hi all,

just thinking its getting closer so, just for the Guinness quaffing sadists who did this last year and just might be 'sick' enough to try it again, I just looked on the Brit. Ferries site,

Plymouth Santander 19/10
Santander Plymouth 27/10

2 passengers
2 berth inside cabin each way

oh yeah, and a car...

£490.00GBP (pre discount ;))

Any takers...? Neil, Clem, Chris (both)....?

Steve.

GAZZER 23 May 2003 06:33 PM

As Pete Croney indicated I will be coming again this year (4th time) and will be doing the Chunnel and blast through France.
Will try not to get knicked on the way home again. I still have not got my licence back. I ended up with a £80 fine and a 15 day ban (in France only). Watch out for little black cars on the side of the motorway !!!!

For anyone who has not been before, it is the best driving holiday you will have.

About 180 Klicks on entry to timing strips about 170 out :) so the bit of paper said. I did not know about the ban untill 3 days later when it came through the post at home.

Okay, things are starting to move now...there seem to be 2 favorites for getting down...

1. Driving down the whole way... or
2. The ferry from Plymouth to Santander

with the option of possibly catching the train subject to cost and when its running from and to etc etc...

Someone did suggest a transporter for some of the vehicles...but to be honest having spoken to few people/clients/companies about this idea...it really is way way to cost prohibitive!!

I shall post more details on the forum as and when I get them...

Hi all,

I'd be interested in this, however think my car may have been sold by the date so, I would be happy to passenger(and pay peccy etc) or get the easyjet option. Im based near Southampton. If I can rope in a few takers locally then I may hang onto the car and join a convoy with some of you drivers :D

Andy

mark@wrx 31 May 2003 09:59 AM

We've just booked! First time to Spain and the rally. We are flying to Barcelona and then getting a hire car. Going on one of those semi-organised rally holidays advertised in Motorsport news. Can't wait and its 5 months off!

Rusty Festa 04 June 2003 11:29 PM

Thanks to Banshi and TunnelMeister for filling me in at the Wiggin Tree tonight. Tia and I will be going out, if we can join you then that would be great :D

Have not read all this thread so won't ask any questions until I have as most likely already answered ;)

Cheers, Jon

banshi 05 June 2003 12:33 AM

No probs RF

Not too many Q & As here, vague confirmation of attendance, a few in jokes and more than a little extraction of the proverbial :}

I'll add you to the "Preunion" gang and sort mail tomorrow, thereafter ask away.

Good meet tonight, may even catch u at the NBO

johnfelstead 10 June 2003 02:46 PM

you guys better read this dated 24/9/03 http://www.rallyecatalunya.com/2003/...icia.asp?id=34

"Special safety measures for the Rally Catalunya route

With the aim of avoiding the safety problems due to which some special stages had to be cancelled last year, the RACC will deploy a meticulous safety plan in order to gather fans in special spectator areas, closing the stages well in advance and preparing spectator car parks.
The special stages making up the route of the 39th Rally Catalunya-Costa Brava will include this time a series of measures to assure safety throughout the event and to avoid situations of danger that may force the FIA Safety Delegate to cancel a stage.
Under the control of the Catalan police ‘Mossos d’Esquadra’ and the safety marshals, stages will be closed the night before from 0.00 h, not allowing to drive along the stages that will be run the next day.

Spectator areas
This year’s route will be made up by 22 special stages – eleven stages run twice – and a single Service Park in the sports complex of VIC. The concentration of the stages and the fact of them being run several times - some of them in opposite direction - makes it necessary to lead spectators wishing to watch the vehicles passing to the spectator areas the organisation has prepared for each special stage, all of them being places with easy access and better possibilities for fans to situate themselves. It will be forbidden to be situated outside these areas.

Spectator car parks
Several clubs and sports organisations will collaborate with the Organiser to concentrate fans’ vehicles in previously determined places in order no to hinder the development of the race. For 5 euros per day, fans will be able to park their cars in these car parks, close to the stages, and walk to the spectator areas in an orderly way without collapsing the accesses. The fee is only for one car park per day so all those whishing to move to another car park will have to pay the fee again.
Once all car park spaces are full, access will be closed and parking on the roadside will be forbidden, meaning that the road will be closed some kilometres before the spectator area.
Wrongly parked vehicles on the access roads will be towed away.
In all areas without nearby parking places, the vehicle access will be closed some kilometres before and spectator areas will only be reachable by foot."

Hypo 11 June 2003 05:23 AM

Hello,

I am slowly trudging through the six pages of posts. I am coming to the UK in Early september (From Australia) and was looking at going to Catalunya this year. If someone feels like having a tag along in Catalunya or even getting there from the UK who knows where to go and when to go please buzz me a mail. Would be willing to chip in for whatever is required etc.
I have also joined the yahoo group.

banshi 17 June 2003 04:02 PM

Hi Luke

Don't think that you're being ignored m8.
October is a long way off and when people get their summer activities out of the way the group will gather a more momentum.

So far as tagging along is concerned last year the gang managed to accomodate a couple of Aussies who dropped by on their way back home:)

All you really need is to know a couple of faces and how to find your way to Mobys.

Where will you be based in the UK?

ChrisB 02 July 2003 12:48 AM

Hull would be a good option for me actually.

It's approx 150 miles to Hull or 250 to Dover.

Any idea of the crossing time? I don't fancy 24 hours again, although this time I'll bring a copy of War & Peace to read :D

Oh Tom, no reply from my contact yet but I'm pretty sure he's out in Sweden for this weekend's round so hopefully next week :)

Hypo 22 July 2003 12:08 AM

Will be based as close to London as possible I hope. Depends on where I find work I suppose :)
Anyone looking for a test analyst or system tester.

SU3ARU 22 July 2003 02:11 PM

There are a few us going from SW London/Surrey - myself, Andy Hamilton and Subarussian.

We are flying down there, but looking forward to meeting up for a few Scoobynet beers :D

Peter

Hypo - what sort of industry do you have testing experience in? Nothing at the moment, but you never know!!

Andy Hamilton 22 July 2003 02:44 PM

Yep, going again this year :)

I assume everyone will end up in 'Moby's' again for a beer or 3 ;) :D
