Ignore the EBAY link in my above post. the guy is selling
9800 pro 'Special Edition'. a Google search reveals that it is a
4 pipeline jobbie (i.e. not the usual 8) - thought it was too
good to be true :(

Got a reply from the top firm

Dear Si

Thank you for your e-mail.

Because we trade exclusively over the internet are prices are as low as we can get them and so unfortunately we are unable to offer a discount.

However if you were to place an order you would save on carriage because you would only be charged £2.99 EX VAT no matter how many cards you bought.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information.

What do people want too do?

Si

Si

you can put me down as a maybe if the price is right. would consider £275 tops i.e. inc VAT.

look forward to hearing what you come back with.

cheers

Above dude, pcnextday are cheaper than any group buy arranged with other companies, so therefore i'd say go with them and place orders individually if you want one, no point having all the effort of a group buy to save £2.99 postage.

This way also means that we can buy when we're ready and there is nothing to be gained from "getting one now because they're cheap on a group buy".

super_si 30 July 2003 10:41 AM

Seems cheaper to buy the £268 one above individually tbh

Cool - Microdirect ATI Rad 9800 Pro 128MB DDR 8x AGP +DVI +TV out Retail - £269inc VAT, and it's just down the road so no P&P.

Try emailing them, I'm sure they'd do a group buy, I know they do student discount.

super_si 30 July 2003 11:16 AM

Would people have the power colour 1?

Si

rik1471 30 July 2003 11:18 AM

Oh, I thought a 9800 pro was a 9800 pro??

What's the difference?

rik1471 30 July 2003 11:21 AM

Here's a benchmark Vs. the other cards, http://www.nordichardware.com/review...index.php?ez=9

super_si 30 July 2003 11:22 AM

emailed them.

Id be happy with that

super_si 30 July 2003 12:02 PM

My bloke at the company will equal the £268 card abovce as the 9800 pro has dropped a wee bit.

Im seeing if he'll do £265 inc p&p for 10 people

Si

UHF 30 July 2003 12:06 PM

why not just buy online when you want for £268 inc vat?

surely you'll want to get £250inc vat to make a group buy worth the effort?

super_si 30 July 2003 12:08 PM

id be happy with £265 in pnp.

if you got the 268 one youd still need delivery charge. Your choice

Si

UHF 30 July 2003 12:11 PM

its £2.99 dude!

super_si 30 July 2003 12:13 PM

Special Delivery is more then that

[Edited by super_si - 30/07/2003 12:13:56]

UHF 30 July 2003 12:16 PM

all i'm getting at is that people are less likely to make a purchase on a group buy unless they're getting a significant discount.

super_si 30 July 2003 12:21 PM

5 confirms and people saying it its less then £275 there is.

UHF 30 July 2003 12:24 PM

well how exactly do you intend on getting people thier cards, you'll have to pay delivery either way :(

super_si 30 July 2003 12:34 PM

No thats why i asked delivery inc. Hopefully they will all be sent out from the store.

Si
