You missed a good dig there, you could have said I think I've seen your can when I overtook you :D. You can call people all the names under the sun and slag the mum off, but making a mockery of their driving is the worst insult know to mankind. I change cars fairly frequently, at the moment I'm in an E46 330XD but I reckon next time I go I'll be in a rental car. I know your car so I'll be sure to come and say hello (might not mention I'm Torpid for a while though :) ) |

You obviously need to check your facts then. Were you there? Do you know what I look like? Did you talk to me?
As for allegations of trolling I believe your post here contributes nothing to the thread and could be said to be the same. |

And your 'social skills' are up there Mary Poppins! :D

Should add I'd be suspicious about the lowered suspension though. |

No debts other than the mortgage that I stated!
I didn't ask for your sarcastic remarks, but hey ho, that's life! :thumb: |

But how many are bog standard ex factory cars?
Most of them, other than maybe a brake pad upgrade |

I didn't ask for your sarcastic remarks, but hey ho, that's life! :thumb: I suppose it helps people rationalise things, after all, very few people like to think that they are actually in debt to the tune of tens (or hundreds) of thousands of pounds which is the reality of the situation. |

I can only think of a couple I've seen in comparison to the myriad of MKIIs. |
My reason for putting the 172 in the ring is as follows.
You can get a 70K 2000 car for the budget money Everyone knows they have proven smiles per miles (benchmark car) Interiors can be a little creaky (what do you want for £3500?) They give good mpg They are made using newer technology than most if not all of the other cars mentioned. I cant say as I have heard of one with an engine problem (probably about to be proved wrong though) Parts are pretty cheap and plentyful If you need something reliable dont bother with a 205 or a clio williams newer technology will always win. All IMHO of course. Gary |

In your experience then is the MKIII the most popular version of Golf used on the Nordschleife? Is the MKIII a common sight?

GTI 6. I own one and it's great, you'll get told that they're unreliable bla bla bla but mines never let me down (touch the biggest bit of wood known to man!)
You cant got wrong with the GTI 6 but I would consider a rallye as well. As someone has already said they're pretty much a GTI without air con and electric windows and mirrors. You might want to think about a Clio Williams as well. |

Gary Sorry for going off Topic but what sort of engine upgrades do the MK2's run i.e 1.8T's ???? that would be a great idea for a track/ring car. how do they fare against other more powerful cars around the ring? |

Yet another incorrect statement from the insurance salesman. Explain how you know my movements, as far as I'm aware I don't carry a tracking device.
When you post on other threads about the dates you'll be at the ring and what car you'll be in it does draw attention to yourself. A few member of this and another forum were keeping their eyes out for you on the date you said you'd be there...and you weren't. Anyway, lets try to keep this thread on topic shall we... |
Please do not feed the troll

Just get rid of him then! He's broken just about every rule the book.......again, yet he is still allowed to post! :cuckoo:

how do they fare against other more powerful cars around the ring? With proper brakes they are very quick indeed around a track. Standard 16v engine is very difficult to get more power from - 30bhp extra if you're lucky. |
Scooby for that sort of money ?

Besides, I already have one. I will only sell mine for the right money, and only replace it with something that is better on fuel/insurance, but still fun to drive. |

The most succesful engine upgrade I've seen to a MKII Golf is G60 based. VR6 conversions are meant to screw up the handling. Believe it or not there are also some PD150 MKII's out there as well.
