i agree if mine had been that amount i wouldnt have payed it,as it is im still paying alot of money (£3500) the price i pay for being young, but to be fair i could be spending the money on drugs, but instead i choose to spend it on something i love.

I was 20 when i got my subaru and to be honest it was a joke the insurance norwich union quoted a whopping £13,500 to insure it and others wanted approx £7,500 but eventually got a quote for £1,650 which to be honest was the same a my previous 206 xsi then after one year it really came down alot, now just ordered a new sti and its only £613 to insure it at the age of 23.
to me if your paying over £2,000 give up whats the point if you crash it who is going to insure you next time because your premium's are bound to go through the roof. speaking from experience when my car was standard at 265hp to me it was to much to handle but could of quite easily killed myself or some poor unfortunate familly if it wasnt for my own common sence, once you can show people you can handle a high powered car then fair enough do what you like after all iam only putting my exsperience and opinions across.

So what im trying to say is could you say to insurance your car is a 2.0 non turbo (as that is what it says on the logbook, 2.0 subaru) and it really be a STI or WRX etc. ?

I know its highly illegal but was just wonderingg....

I'm 18 and just got a quote on a subaru 2.0 sport for £980...so was wondering ?

err because a vehicle has a VIN plate detailing what it is---- plus if you do any mods without declaring- like changing steel wheels to alloys, normal exhaust to halfrauds fart can etc- yr insurance is void.

so when you smash yr car up as a unexperienced teen driver- insurance compnay will check yr car over and refuse to pay anything out. you can imagine the personal claims then agasint yrself.

neighbours son had some chav tastic corsa. parked up a bin wagon hit it.

but because he'd failed to declare, wheels, exhaust, tints, hi-fi etc- even though totally non fault- they told him to sod off.

so a 2.0 litre non turbo scoob that you alter and do mods too- good luck with all of that.

but I just don't get paying 2000 K or more to insure a car- be better off putting it towards buying a house or doing something meaningful with it.

i had insurance when i was 18. if you do quotes on moneysupermarket or something im sure you will find insurance sooner or later. be prepared to spend around 2500-3500 though. and try to do it asap, more an more insurances arent touching under 21's with a car over insurance group 13. or so iv heard anyway

fat_boy 18 February 2008 11:27 AM

im 22 mate with 1 yrs ncb and ive been banned for 2 years and i only pay 1300 on a 03 wrx thats with elephant just give loads of companys a call and see what you get you never know they might suprise you thats what i did and when they gave me that quote i went out and brought one lmao :)

austinwrx 18 February 2008 11:34 AM

how do you manage 1300 when you've had a 2 yr ban---- guessing drink driving or something.

you have declared yr ban I take it- not assumed because you've got a licence back its clean ??? that ban is effective for 10 yrs for declaring (I think)

whats yr profession- monk, car kept in a chapel overnight and you have a stern nun with you when you drive your 1 mile a year on yr limited mileage policy. :D

sorry- just fascinated.

I have got a 1.2 clio 2004 model at the moment with 14k miles on the clock, 1 lady owner before me so i can get £4-5k back on that, hopefully buy a subaru for £2-3000 with decent miles on the clock, and then pay my insurence off with whats left and then rely on my wage to finish it off monthly. Its alot of money but i'd rather spend it on a car and go to subaru meetings, meet other drivers who can gimme tips on the best garages to go to etc, the little things that when you meet other people they can point you in the right direction. Im going to give that sommat micheals a ring tomorrow insurence company and see what they come up with.

Mate,

Just think about it... You will end up paying more for insuring a car than what you paid for it. You spending the money from your Clio on insurance will mean you have no cash spare for next years insurance, or maintenance.

I have no doubt that you would be able to handle the car with your motorcross background etc. But unfortunately most insurance companies know f*ck all and would rather insure a 30 year old woman with no ncb who just passed her test (like my sister). Who, lets be honest, is much more likely to crash it than you.

I can empathise with you as I was 16 when McRae was winning and I desperately wanted a Scoob. But I would never pay that kind of money for insurance as it is crazy (unless of course you win 16m on the lottery then pay what you like :D).

I went the long road with a Nova SR, 106 GTI, AX GT, 205 GTI before I got my first UK Scoob Turbo (when 24). Then another 205 Mi16 track car before my Type R. I was at uni for 3 years in the the middle (when I downgraded to the AX and first 205) when cash was low but you can always step up again. The most I ever paid is 1400 for the 106 GTI when I was 19 with 1 years ncb, but that was full comp on a brand new car costing me just shy of 13k!

If you really want one then go for it, but seriously, can you justify spending £4-5k on insurance? I'm having a hard time telling myself to spend 4-5k on a PPG g'box etc, but at least I'll have something more than a piece of paper worth feck all out of it.

Good luck fella

especially if he does crash and its his fault. imagine what it would shoot upto then, or worst still if he was a named driver on another policy and the rozzers found out. christ!

I have always wanted a subaru since i was younger and now i can finally drive i wanna get one as soon as. I have been driving coming on 1 year now with 1 years NCB but im only 17 (18 by the time i come to re-new in 2months). Is there any possible way to get insured on one of the older models of subarus or should i wait until im 19-21?

Worth a try i suppose but i bet most of you know why i want one but its my ages thats letting me down.

Anyway, thanks for reading - some nice feedback atleast :) Wez

i got my impreza when i was 17 but they wouldnt look at me until i was 18 - only company that would stop laughin long enough to give me a quote were endsleigh (£3048) imports they didnt want to know so mines a uk as group 17 insurance. 19 now though and endsleigh were not at all competitive.swinton quoted me (£2011)

think in short.. if the car is crashed and its a fault claim, then u can say good-bye to scooby for afew years :brickwall

they aint goin to cover u again for at least that time for a decent quote lol cos ur original quote is already through the roof

i would personnel never pay more than about £2000 insurance especially now since all the insurance call centres (and all other services for that matter) are abroad and the people dont actually speak english... :brickwall

i speak for quite afew people about the insurance..

this is defo what you want if you've liked scoobys for that long you'll be better off spending your money on this one and as the years go by instead of spending your money on insurance you can spend it on mods cos your gona be spending 4/5k a year on insurance for the next 4 years = 20k you can turn this into one hell of a car with that kind of cash start with suspension and brakes and it will handle like its on rails and stop on a dime any one who knows anything about driving will tell you this is much more important than straight line speed after all its the twisty bits that these cars are made for! then later you can buy/build an engine drop it in and then all your mates that were beating you off the lights wont stand a chance and youll look cool as fook in the mean time..

ditchmyster 18 February 2008 04:11 PM

ps i had an audi gt 22 years ago when i was 19 and that cost 2k for insurance

lol thats a rare sight.... i never seen one b4.

i think thats best bet, drive it a year or 2 then if uv spent too much on the shell then u prob better of doing an engine swap (big job) but ud spend that much on the new car anyways

WRX-DAN 18 February 2008 05:24 PM

im 21 and i pay £1350 fully comp, i have four years no claims from doing a bonus accellerator on my first year of driving. that gives you your first yrs no claims after just 10months which made it possible for me to get another years no claims on every bday pretty much.

i was the same always wanted one but i settled for the non-turbo as £4700 isnt practical. the non-turbo was bout £700 and u still get AWD which is fun :)

slayer84 18 February 2008 06:16 PM

Good things to consider with insurance. Put other drivers on the poicy, i.e: your mum and dad. That will drop it. If you keep it in a garage, that makes a difference. Also your postcode makes a big difference. If you live in a high risk area, such as the middle of B'ham, your premium will be higher than if you lived in a low risk area.

You're obviously expecting it to be expensive, so I say go for it! Youve got no other responsibilities to cater for. You dont have to pay taxes or bills, or look after children or a house. Get it out of your system now while you can afford it, then buy a people carrier when reality sets in!!

I say good luck to you. Why should it just be older drivers that have all the fun? Besides, driving tests were ALOT easier then!!

skoobidude 18 February 2008 06:38 PM

Paying that much for insurance is mad especially when you pay near enough the same again the next year.
Mind when I was 22 (14 years ago) I paid over £900 TPFT for a GTE 16v :cuckoo:
I got the money from a bonus at work. Every year I spent it on insurance :lol1:
It's just such a waste looking back but if I was that age again I'd probably still do it!
