Nice power. Could do with a tune to sort the AFR, 10.2:1 is a bit rich lol! In fact it's in the tens all the way in boost, I would think 11.5:1 would be better for it, make even more power!
It could do with bigger injectors, the 380's are a bit, well, maxxed out. :lol1: |
Rings are here, hopefully get them gapped and pistons sized for individual bores later

What did you do have a word with a guy on a Camel ? Did you let the unfortunate arab gentleman who sent you these pay your VAT. Or did you palm a officer of our crown to get them into EU at LHR customs ? Something is dodgy here , I bet you got them cheap. :thumb: |

OMG , hope you at least raised the fuel pressure on the FPR , no wonder you have no top end. I threw out my 440's for 550's as soon as the Turbo went on.

Looking good.
It's nice to see a budget build where costs are kept as low as possible as realistically That's the level most people are at. You should manage a 12 without issue. I managed 11.68 with around 400bhp all be it in a classic |

Calm down guys, his car is stinking rich at 11:1 in it's leanest state, mostly well in the tens. Plenty of fuel going in here!
but how does he get that ? He has 380'cc s and still makes a 12.x sec 1/4 mile , heaven knows how you get this AFR on a 330 bhp at just 1.0 bar . Somewhere I am obviously going about this the wrong way. ;) Mickey will then no doubt tell us that he only get 50 mpg shortly. What turbo are you using Mickey ? bet its bigger than mine too  |

Maybe I'm being too fussy now, measured the honed bores this evening (I honed them before casing halves went away for cleaning) also measured my STI pistons (two "A"s and two "B"s)

What turbo are you using Mickey ? bet its bigger than mine too  Brief history. March 2005 Bought car, standard apart from decat and dodgy boost controller. April 2005 GReddy Boost controller fitted, running 1 bar. Just under the fuel cut. At somepoint a mate told me to fit a Z4 Ecu, so I did. December 2006, chucked an FMIC on it. January 2007 chucked the Nur Spec on and it's been like that ever since. It made the numbers that it did, and has ran the times that it has, and that is all I know. Sorry for the slight off topic. :thumb: |
Got my pistons in today. Checked ring gaps, 1st rings were too tight so had to file the rings to open the gaps up a bit.
Second rings spot on, as were the oil control rings. Pistons all fitted, circlips in, plugs in and plates on. Short block built! I took my best looking oil pump from a choice of three, took the plate off it, near mint inside, so it will be getting a clean and put back together and bolted on. I will be shimming up the PRV same as the one I am currently running. http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/a...psgrxllo7s.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/a...psoggzkky3.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/a...psqemdast9.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/a...psutkkbadk.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/a...pstxk0qlza.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps1alvmobr.jpg As you can see the pump looks like new, I'll get some more pics of the pump internals tomorrow, overall showing minimal wear. Left a note on the breather plate too for the next time. |
Bit of oil pump inspection, cleaning and re assembly tonight. Shimmed the PRV up 4mm too. More than happy on the condition of this oil pump.

On a different note, having looked at my rear driveshaft problem it appears to be a CV angle limit issue, so I am now looking at modding some Oe subaru inner Cv's to bolt onto the audi diff, and retain an or shaft

Looking to stop snapping driveshafts when launching first. Think this new set up will eliminate the problems I've been having. Maybe get the heads on this engine next weekend, busy with my wee girl this weekend. Then again I've got to do some mot repairs to my other car and get it tested and sold, so maybe no time next weekend! Busy busy.... |

He's into it. ;)

less than a thou over the 4 piston match them to the bores, good old fashioned "blue printing".
Put some locktite on the screws on the back of the oil pump as these have a habit of loosening off. Loving the build. |

I cleaned, loctited and used impact screwdriver on the countersunk screws, they aren't coming slack! I checked the valves/seats for seal by putting brake cleaner in the combustion chamber, no leak past the valves. Heads will just be getting a clean and bolted on then 👍 Must resist porting |

Wife's very understanding. Or, well, she would be if she knew 👍 |
It's a bloke's prerogative. ;)
Would she go spare, if she found out? Or just tut vaguely, like girls love to do. :D |
I washed a cylinder head in our dishwasher a while back, didn't tell the wife at all. All was well until she was going to use it and seen that most of the plastic parts inside had been covered in black crap! Took me a while to clean it. Oops lol

I used to keep maggots in the fridge, when I was into fishing as a lad.
Mum not too pleased. |

Nooooo! That's rank.

Heads are mostly cleaned up by hand, wire brush sandpaper etc. Will see about cleaning them later on.
Then they can go on. Along with the cam covers, sump and timing belt. Then I just need to de tumble flap and paint some inlet manifold bits and she's done. Going to look t mounting an external trigger wheel and VR sensor while it's out too |
