Just bought a 335d Touring - being delivered on Friday. 16k miles, sunroof, great price - no more Astra!

Cheers all!

Sweet, Board will go on the roof no problems!!! Best part about estate cars IMO.

john banks 25 July 2009 05:42 PM

Nice one Matt, I think that engine/gearbox combination need discipline so you don't drive like a loony, there is so much real world thrust available. When it kicks down into first on a slip road you just have to wonder whether so much fun in such a sensible looking car should be allowed ;)

Gav 28 July 2009 10:37 AM

A guy local to me has a GTR in silver. It looks and sounds epic, congrats on the purchase John:)

john banks 28 July 2009 12:21 PM

I collect tomorrow, could have been today, but I have to work 12 hours today, no sympathy requested or deserved though, it pays for fun like this.

Gav 28 July 2009 12:36 PM

I wouldn't sleep tonight due to excitement....:D

Very nice alloy, have you done 300 miles yet and put the foot down?

alloy 28 July 2009 02:36 PM

Upto 420 odd miles so far, even upto 3.5k revs this car has some torwue and wants to move!! Starting to build the revs up now, as with anything always get two views about running in protocol but the manual says 600km under 3.5k and then 600km ABOVE 3.5k and states you should only use gears 1 through to 4!! Now that's something i can do!!

This weekend going to have a run out with the ESC boys so will just build on the revs, but as you'll soon find out John the car is effortless with it's delivery of power, there is no lag at all and it just surges forward. congrats with your purchase!

I'm not expecting 997 turbo sports chrono 500 lbft overboost levels of thrust as standard though as it does have more weight and considerably less torque. However, that does run 1.2 bar whereas the VR38 only runs 0.8 bar as standard.

COBB AP and Y-Pipe can resolve that issue for you and for less than £1,500 happy days are ahead :D

Which garage have you bought it from? Is it a Premium or Black Edition?

john banks 28 July 2009 03:22 PM

Nobles, Premium.

I don't think I'll be changing the exhaust, I like things quiet.

scoobyc 28 July 2009 04:17 PM

Poor cat only has one leg though.

john banks 29 July 2009 02:17 PM

Cat is fine, just artistically arranging her tail.

Off for a drive, cat is sleeping on my pillow, the cheek of it! She tells me she is famous now she has been on Scoobynet.

First impressions John?

john banks 29 July 2009 05:28 PM

On 195 miles now :) Had a good trip this afternoon down some excellent roads.

Really impressed by everything, it carves up back roads like an Evo but with a lot less effort and fuss, gearbox is just brilliant. It is also surprisingly relaxing when you want it to be in a way the Evo never could be.

I'm relieved that the suspension is better than expected, whilst pretty firm, it doesn't jolt, and most importantly the tyres stay on the tarmac over bumpy bits when you're carrying some speed.

jaytc2003 29 July 2009 06:38 PM

awesome looking car :thumb:

look forward to your modding threads on it on here and the mlr :lol1:

jeremy 30 July 2009 05:10 AM

Simply a great looking (and working) car! . Congratulations are in order. It really seems like the next generation of all day all ways supercar. Wondering aloud already just who will be able to match this????

What do you mean about less effort and fuss; are you simply saying its a more stable car that slips less and needs less steering correction? If so it sounds a bit like a modern day UrQuattro- of course with about 250 more hp.

And last I might as well be the first to ask: Whats your thought winding the car through tighter sections, it being a larger car than your used to?

Best of luck with it, Jeremy

john banks 30 July 2009 08:01 AM

The engine/gearbox combination, plus body control and the brakes, quick steering and little noise make it effortless. It is wider, but I'm also not fully used to the width yet. A few gaps in towns I took slower, but where you can go faster on back roads it doesn't feel too big.

alloy 30 July 2009 09:08 AM

I agree John, having come from STI and EVO9, the GTR just seems to handle tasks with out so much of a drama. In Auto mode its so civilised and then in manual mode you can realy have some fun through the gears, then there is the downshift blipping which can really make a man go moist :lol1:

It is a big car but when in the drivers seat and in general driving it really doesnt feel as big and heavy as it is. Great bit of engineering :thumb:

john banks 01 August 2009 12:44 AM

Now over 300 miles coinciding with the first time in the rain tonight, feeling of massive traction and grip fighting lots of torque, but a really good prod of the right foot in a tight wet corner loosens the back end beautifully (not in a scary pendulous way) whilst still having lots of forward acceleration. People have been complaining about understeer, but this just didn't seem to be on the menu. Feels like a heavier Evo with more grip, higher forces, but feels slightly less darty. I'm delighted.

Awesome motor .
