At the moment me and Marc are both considering the purchase of the ATi 9800 256Mb Graphics card.
We are thinking of emailing places such as overclockers and seeing if would could get a good deal on a group buy. Would anyone else be interested? Si |
i've emailed overclockers....waiting for a reply
Marc :) |
emails sent to
cpucity Komplett dabs Coolcasemods over-clock. See if we get anywhere:D |
they cost about £370 so if we can get them down to £300 each then i'll be happy
Marc ;) |
Doubt you will get much off!
Most online companies have a markup in the region of 15-20%. So if the card is £380 then a 20% profit would £76. If its 15% then that would be just £57. IMO not much profit margin to play with especially if the £380 includes VAT! |
After a wee disgussion we've opted for the 9800 128mb as the gains a minimal with 256mb.
the cards are £293 and my friend at one of the above is willing to do a group deal Si |
you wont catch me spending stupid money with graphics cards again -
bought a 8500 for £250 when they came out, one year later on and you can get em for 50 quid  |
3 people so far :)
|
mj i done that with a voodoo3500 best around and was £200 top of the range 16meg card:eek:, but thats pc's for you. think the 9800 will be good for a long time though;)
|
I'll have sum Si:)
|
think the 9800 will be good for a long time though I'll wait a while for a 9800, and probly save a fortune. |
yeah well thanks for that productive post mj. So any non Victor Meldrews fancy joining us?
Marc :D |
Check on ebuyer, and they actually list discounts for bulk purchases, though not exactly a large drop in price for >10 units...
ebuyer 9800 Joolz |
Why don't you try Crucial as they seem to have one of the cheapest Radeon 9800's around?
Why do you want the 256mb version? In most of the reviews I have seen there is little or no difference between it & the 128mb version and it runs very very hot :( Darren |
Right 4 people now.
Got 2 places who will offer group discount. Si |
better off looking at dabs.com at there B grade stuff. got me a nice geforce4 4200 128meg x8 for £56 plus the vat,,
|
you could had my 4600 lol ;)
Si |
still will if its going for £60 quid.

too xpensive. not worth the money.
wait a few months for the next card to be out....rumour is sept. then next gen card q1 2004. if u got money to burn then go ahead. my 9500 pro will do me for a while yet. |
your 9500 pro will do you eh! how old is that card and your still happy with it so if you get the 9800 pro how long do you think this card will keep you happy;)
|
9800 and 9500 arent even in the same league lol.
You run 3D Mark 2003 and tell us your results since thats a pure graphics card benchmark. Im interested to see if it'll even half the score the 9800 will knock up Si |
what is it with all these people f¦_¦cking whinging about how they're going to save their little pennies. A few of us on here have decided to upgrade our cards so we thought it'd be a good idea to group buy to maybe save a few pounds.
If we wanted people to give us their opinions on what a waste of money it is or why in 6 months this technology will be useless we'd have started a thread 'Please post why you think buying anything for a PC is a waste of money cos in 6 months it'll be shiiit and I'm a tight assed waste of space'. Marc :( |
Are there any high-end cards that will support two VGA monitors?
My Matrox G400 dualhead is still doing a good job for me, but I want to upgrade in time for Doom 3. I don't want to lose my secondary display, so do I need to get a screen with DVI as well or can I (still) get a cheap PCI card to run alongside a decent AGP one? |
|
Thanks - I know the chipset supports it. What I wondered was whether any cards actually provide two 15-pin VGA connectors, rather than VGA plus DVI or TV.
|
i think it is just 1 VGA and 1 DVI
btw I had a card (Nvidia 4600ti) that had dual DVI heads - you could run 2 displays at once. But that was only an AGP 4x i think so not really that 'new'. [Edited by marxsmann - 7/27/2003 9:53:16 AM] [Edited by marxsmann - 7/27/2003 9:53:55 AM] |
