Buying a new scoob
Hello all,
A bit of help wanted on helping me choose my next car. Been out looking at STI's over the past few days, and there are 2 I am now interested in. 1. 53 plate (04 model) STI, in Black with PFF7's covered 32k miles, and will have 1 years warranty, plus 6 mnths tax and a years MOT. £15,495. 2. 54 Plate (05 model) so has the diff control, STI in Blue covered 21k Miles, still has a years warranty, and 6 months tax £16,500 Which car would be best? Im swaying towards the black one as I know how good it willl look when Sticky has worked his magic :norty: . But I have heard that the 2005MY is the better drive?? Only drove the 2004 model today as was short of time. I am aware that i can possibly get a better deal privatly but i need to be able to part ex in the SAAB as i cant get rid of it, ive been trying since xmas. They have offered me a good trade in price, so want to take advantage of this. So which would you guys go for? :wonder: Any comments greatly appreciated. |
Hi mate, wat happened to the P1....:lol1:
personally love black and silver, but youv'e had silver,so black, but it is a bugger to keep clean, mate as a 182 and looks mint wen all polished but don,t stay like it for long.... But i must admit i do like the blue as well and i think would look good with silver graphics.... Don't know why but i've heard that "05" are a better model, don't know why though and ain't sure where i heard it either, saying that hopefully in next couple of months i'll be buying something new and will prob be goin for an "03"model due to funds....:) Let us know outcome mate....:thumb: |

You can get the same effect by fitting speedwagons to the rear of an '03. :D

just been chatting to skywalker over text, he likes the look of the black one. so sticky, what can you do with a blue one then if you work your magic :wonder: :wonder: |
So is the 05 greatly different to drive then? To me its only £1k difference so i wud be tempted with the 05 if its the better car? |
Hmm. Thinking cap on....
How about going for something original. Yellow fluorescent swooshes? |
When I drove the 06 with DCCD-A I could feel it sorting things out mid-bend. Where in my WRX I'd have been balancing the power to control any drift on the limit, I was able to just keep on the power right through. Switched it to rear bias and had a hoot drifting through a few hairpins above Otley too. I would have to drive both back-to-back for a decent run to ascertain the benefits of the geometry changes, but they were done for both cornering ability and straight-line stability. I believe the dampers are better too, using inverted struts.
If you're thinking 04 then maybe consider 03 but JDM CLICKY :notworthy On the graphics side, I'm sure Sticky will advise but I considered silver on blue and he said it would look crap. I saw one shortly after like this and he was right. |
Well lots to think about me thinks.
Will give it some thought over the weekend and keep everyone posted. In the meantime, anymore opinions welcomed. |
Think Steve Chaps preferred his old (my) 53 plate sti to the new one he has now. Might be worthwhile sending him a PM Raf for some feedback.
Black does look the business when clean..........just a nightmare to keep it that way. Always looked a lot cleaner when mine had the graphs on :D Just to tempt you in................. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../welllane3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../welllane1.jpg and of course how I bought it: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v680/Re9280/car3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v680/Re9280/mycar.jpg |
In fairness, Steve put a lot of time and a lot of money into getting that car exactly how he wanted it, and is the 1st usually to admit that in hindsight he should have kept it instead of going down his rocky Noble experience. I think that passion has subsided a little making him less prepared to make the effort, and the fact that his current car was far from perfect when he collected it probably contributed to his current feelings towards his 05.

The DCCD-A really is worth the difference.
Having the ~75-25 to 50-50 diff lock control is one thing, but they way it flattens the car out of bends or off roundabouts when you apply a few 'notches' and force it to 60-40 etc is where the real benefit is gained. Every slight diff alteration changes the car's ability and attitude. You'll have a different car each time as the potentiometer has infinite adjustability. If you want straight line acceleration them you simply lock the diff and you have the best get away / 1/4 mile traction. I also use it on wet motorways as the stability under braking is also improved by locking the diffs to various degrees... It adds a lot of confidence when pushing on in the wet or dry as the car is highly balanced when exiting and entering bends... I love switching it on on really wet days just to play with the handling... As you can see. I like DCCD :D I remember telling Martin to switch his on when he got his 06... he noticed the difference straight away... That's my 2 penneth mate.. :thumb: |
DCCD what's that:wonder: :norty: Can i have 1 please, will it make my car any faster.:Suspiciou
Is that it ive tied to my gearstick, cos when i move it boy does it go round corners...:thumb: |

Martin did you see the 54 plate 05 model blue one when you were there last week?
What did you think to it? |
|
RAF, you're welcome to pop along and have a go in mine (55 ppp STi).
It's still tight with only 5k on it but you will get the gist of what it feels like. The dccd takes some getting used to (squirms at the start & like Dave says you can feel it working in certain circumstances). Most of the comments about my own 03/05 comparison are correct except that now I've driven the dccd car a bit I like it more and more as the miles slowly tick up! Steve |
Still lurking Steve :D Hope you're well :thumb:
On your recommendation I'm off to look at some Fabia's next week  |

On your recommendation I'm off to look at some Fabia's next week  60mpg on a long run, tuneable, tinkerable! Suits you sir. Even with the latest cold weather & multiple short runs in traffic we're still getting 40mpg. Would need the remap you're looking at for grin factor but as standard they're deffo quicker than the figures suggest. Prices seem to be coming down a bit too :( Have you seen that DM Keiths are doing 0% finance with 30% deposit at the moment? |
