Played with a new Golf GTi this morning!
From the lights, make a right cock of launching but still got ahead of him, though only by a couple of car lengths. :)
I think, from a rolling start, there would have been absolutely nothing in it. The opposition are indeed catching up! :lol1: |
The power to weight ratio of the new Golf GTi and your WRX is suprisingly close
|
What! Another car keeping up with an Impreza...Never!
|
The mk5 gti i take it? There garbage, have driven one,and they ain't very quick.I could've made a brew in the time it took the turbo to spin up and when it did,it did nowt for me at all. Compared to my classic....well no comparison really, classic every time. This is only my opinion before anyone jumps on this!

Trust me... there is more than one!!
|
I had a MK5 GTI with DSG and the turbos on these cars start to spin at 1700 it feels almost lagless with no obvious turbo kick, the DSG versions are quite a bit quicker than the manual IMO
I sold after 6 months and 10k as it never felt special |
Good comment

0 to 60 for mine, MY03 (225PS/221BHP) (Standard) 5.7 Seconds I've personally never thought of it as an unbeatable rocket ship, just what it is, a fast road car. Funny thing is the guy with the Golf actually works at the same place as me (Did not know this 'till after lunch) and the word is it's running 260BHP, when I see the lad who owns it I'll have to ask if this is true :) |
Before changing my MY04 WRX to my MY06STI, i drove a new GTI with DSG. Around town it felt more lively than the wrx but when I got out onto a dual carridgeway it felt alot weaker and ran out of puff quite early. Bulit quality was nice tho, but just didnt make me smile like the WRX did. Now got the STI and best of both worlds, as It picks up well at lower revs (2.5) and screams all the way to the red line :lol1:

i think time for blobeye 0-60mph is 6.11 but you will find if the scooby is left standard there are lot's of cars' that will keep up including alot of diesel's.
as we all know the impreza is a different beast with a few minor mods though:thumb: |
Golf R32 and MY02WRX at Melbourne Dragway the other month and he was nearly a second behind mine (all day):wonder:
MY02 pushing out 238bhp back then mind but not anymore :norty: :thumb: |

the dsg box is a very good peice of kit and changes quicker than nearly anyother box out there. wsted in the golf imho. not keen on the gti but the r32 is another kettle of fish as will be the new passat r36. my friend has the w8 passat and its a lovely car to drive almost limo like. vag are really good at satisfying there customers needs unlike some other marques i could mention... cough mistibushi cough subaroo cough. must see a doctor in tthe morning.
|
must say that running a wrx at 238bhp your 0-60 is 5.5 secs where as the golf R32 if its standard 237bhp 0-60 is 6.04 and it has almost a 100kg on the wrx if its a bugeye.
i have a bugeye and must admit with the comment about it being the slowest impreza about is true, was told that they say the bugeye runs at 215bhp as standard but had it on the RR as standard and it was running 205bhp and the nice man at Scoobyclinic said its right so put on a decat (not full) and now running 218bhp. |
I played with a golf once. Was so boring. I threw the ball and said "fetch" didnt move an inch. So I kicked a ball at it, just stayed parked there, not a murmur... Then I had a kickboxing match with it, there's me kicking and punching for all I'm worth until I nearly passed out! Then the owner came out and chased me down the street...

Forget quoted 0-60 times it means bugger all.
proffesional roadtesters get this buy holding the revs at 4000-5000rpm and dumping the clutch, in a Scoob anyway, in a golf/VXR/Focus ST i would imagine a different launch control would be used. anything over 200bhp once rolling would not be that far behind a standard WRX newage. maybe a 30-100 would be more suitable |

I've got a Mk5 GTi. (Used to have a Bugeye STi ppp) And I'm pretty impressed with it. Not as quick as the Impreza by any stretch of the imagination, but better built and nicer to be in.
Cant say I agree with the turbo lag comments though. I find that mine is very responsive at low revs, and has quite a lot of low down torque. Runs out of steam though at high revs quite quickly. The majority of folk who seem to want a bit of "banter" with me, have gone from being Civic Type R's when I had the scoob, to Scoobs wanting to see how quick it is. Gave a guy in a UK300 a scare one night. But I'm definately looking at getting it remapped, to give it that wee bit extra edge. Will have to see how many front tyres i go through then! |

Six speed box was from an 03 UK STI.
It was rebuilt last year due to a problem with fourth gear. Replaced some syncros and swapped all the selector forks for billet ones. Daz |
