Bought a Scoob!
Just purchased my first scoob after recently selling my Focus RS.
Its a 2002 WRX with prodrive exhaust and decat and prodrive ECU. What sort of horsepower should I expect from a prodrive ECU and remap. Is there a big difference from standard ECU with the prodrive? Thanks |
What one do you prefere ford or subaru???

anyone know what sort of horsepower prodrive ecu adds?
Cheers!!! |
anyone?
|
Should be 265bhp ;)
|
cheers mate, what sort of power could this be upped to with an ecutek remap?
thanks |
270-280 with your current turbo
|
Subaru feeling solid, now there's a first :lol1:

PPP is about 240 isnt it?
TEk3 will get you 260-270bhp no more though. |
I wouldn't bother with a Prodrive ecu if you are going for a re-map, just remap the wrx one.
|
The car already has the prodrive ECU fitted although I'm getting the original ECU in the deal. I'm hoping to change the air filter but have read various reports on this and something to do with "MAF"?
Thanks |
Also, whats the standard size turbo on a 02 WRX?
Thanks |
Standard Turbo on the bugeye 2002 WRX is the Mitsubishi TD04L.....great turbo for early boost as it's small but runs out of steam pretty early !
2001 PPP was a piggyback chip but the 2002 WRX PPP was a re-map from Prodrive giving about 260 BHP. Don't worry about the 2002 MAF....:D Shaun |
What size is the TD04L similar to in "T" terms. My old car had a T25 turbo. Is this similar size?
The ECU on the car was a direct replacement prodrive one. Thanks |

The WRX is not such a bad base for a decent car with performance that is usable on our roads!
From what you have already: Full decat/free flowing exhaust 440cc injectors you could add: A decent panel filter (TSL/Green or Green for £40-50 seem to be the most popular on here) A better fuel pump (walbro 255lph for around £80 (upto £140 fitted) A bigger Turbo (s/h TD05 £100-250 or new TD04 hybrid (£400 exchange) or TD05 16G (£600 new) see AndyForrestPerformance ) A 3 port boost solenoid (to make mapping easier) (£40-60 s/h) Then finally: An Ecutek remap (£600ish depending where you go!) So for less than £1500 (less that £1000 with an s/h turbo) you will have 330-340bhp and 300+ lb/ft torque and the engine will be perfectly safe. You won't be saying the FRS is faster then !!!!! :norty: (and you'll be faster than most Sti's in a more stealthy package)!!! |
My plans for the car are to lower it on a decent set of springs, a full decat (is the prodrive exhaust a full decat or has the scoob got 2 cats?) Ill be changing the air filter as well and possibly a remap. I was wondering what the prodrive ECU is like as if its not a lot of good Ill get it remapped. The car is silver in colour so will be changing the standard wheels to a set of anthracite looking wheels or powdercoating the original ones. Thanks for all the replies though, very helpful.
P.S. I was planning to buy a STI import but the classic shape, but this one came along at the right price so I snapped it up, I didnt like the idea of buying an import either as you never know the full history of the car. This car has all the stamps present and correct. Thanks |
Does the walbro fuel pump make a big difference on fuel consumption?
Also what does everyone think the best turbo to go for is? Whats the difference in injectors? And finally how many cats on a scooby and will a prodrive exhaust have eliminated them all? Thanks |
anyone?
|
3 cats on the wrx, cant remember ifthe prodrivedeletes one or two of them. But there will certainly be one or more cats to meet emisions requirements.the fuel pump will not make it use more fuel on its own.
the flow rates of the injectors are different |
AFAIK pump won't decrease economy significantly.
Turbo choice depends on power you are after etc and you need to be aware that if you're after more than 340bhp you will need stronger internals for your engine. For 340 the turbo choices are really STI spec TD05 (cheapest choice if you get one off an older STI) a hybrid TD04 (as I talked about in the earlier post) or a new TD05 16g or 18g, other choices are of the VF series as fitted to many STis and models such as the P1, most popular for a standard motor seems to be a VF34 but when I was looking I found them to be a bit pricey. If the car was PPP'd officially I think you may have a 100cell front sports cat(almost as good as no cat and you'll get through the MOT) with a centre decat (might be wrong though). You will have 440cc injectors which have enough flow so that, although at the top end of their max duty cycle, will be good for 340bhp. An upgrade to 550cc is often recommended but won't make much if any difference to power and is not really needed. It is also said that 440cc injectors are a good limiting factor to prevent power rising beyond that which will kill the engine. Oh yeah, get some better brake pads on before you get too far with the power increases (ferodo ds2500 always get rave comments). A remap is definately needed with the mods I mentioned, and to be properly safe it needs doing along with or at least straight after the mods or you can say bye bye engine soon after (I know, I've done it!). A good suspension set up makes a world of difference and in a way means you don't need 500bhp to get along most roads faster that most other machinery, someone else wront this on here: The ideal fast road setup is as follows: Whiteline rear anti roll bar, 22mm 3 way adjustable. This will make a big difference over to stability. At the front a set of Anti lift kit blocks. This increases the caster in the front end so generating more negative camber on turning in a bend, Will ease (not irradicate) some understeer. This mod compliments nicely the rear bar mod. Set of camber bolts in all 4 corners of the suspension This will allow the alignment technician to give a great geometry which the stock bolts are just short of providing. Cheap too for the benefit. Follow this with professional laser alignment and the difference will be amazing. Oh and fit a detalarm or knock link to see if you're getting detination (it killed my engine and cost me £4k not knowing I had det!!). Hope this helps Dean (deZmondo):luxhello: |
thanks for the reply, whats a knocklink and does anyone know of any decent remappers near or in norfolk?
Thanks |
Heres some pics, I pick it up on wednesday hopefully

I think the cars from belgium or somewhere alike. It was a euro import and was bought brand new by the guy that had it before the guy I bought it off. Thanks |
Someone has nicked your sills !!
Is the ariel in the driver's A pillar or in the rear screen heater ? otherwise looks like a Bugeye WRX apart fropm the pink badge on the grille :D Just trying to remember where the "YX" plate originates........Well Lane in Dewsberry sold a lot about that time. I'd just check that the V5, Certificate of Conformaty and VIN numbers all match :) Shaun |
What do you meen someones nicked me sills, where do they go?
The aeriels in the rear screen heater as far as I know I did a HPI check before I bought the car and everything matched up fine Thanks |
Do the aeriels vary on the bug eye where they are placed?
thanks |
If you go to Subaru.co.uk accesories you can still download the powercurves for the PPP option for the 03 cars. (Prodrive Performance Pack Impreza WRX 2.0

)
TD04 is broadly similar to a T3, the TD04L used on the WRX is tha smallest turbine wheel in the family, the compressor wheel is also one of the smaller (gasoline not Diesel) ones in common use. Simon |
