Goodbye to all of you....
Just wanted to say goodbye to all.
Sold my version 5 STi Type-R the other week after owning for 8 months. With great relief!!!! FAR too RWD biased not the grip I was hoping for from an Impreza!!! and that was with using the DCCD in the correct settings. Also the useless reliabilty of the engine!!! Luckily I escaped without suffering a rebuild. After reading all the threads on here about the life of these engines I've come to the conclusion they're pretty cr*p. Despite how they're looked after the flat four, be it STi or non STi always dies a death earlier than nearly all other covential inline turbo charged four cylinder engines. I enjoyed every minute of it's engine note and the looks of the car + not many other's have a Type-R. Not much else other than that Many thanks to all who have replied to my posts, greatly appreciated. |

if you're looking for a reliable japanese built turbocharged 4 pot, may I respectfully suggest the SR20DET.

Sorry but just like the Elise I had earlier this year, I won't be back.
I'm moving on to a Westfield SEiW with a circa 220 hp Vauxhall XE engine. May require a rebuild every so often but at least it dips in to the 9's with it's 0-100. Any Impreza that does that is gonna cost a hell of alot to tune and certainly to maintain than a Westfield of this spec. May be impractical but a Clio 182 Cup takes care of every day driving. The wave of turbo torque was fun on the Impreza I enjoyed that. |

Scoobs, marmite both brill. I want to know who here who hates them actually works on them themselves, changes the exhaust, turbo etc.
beginning to feel if more folk would take some spanners to their cars and bid some stuff themselves they would appreciate them a lot more. Learnt this from landrover ownership for many a year, and I still love them, even the old perkins diesel ones. Enjoy your new car. P |
Seems odd to complain about RWD bias and then go and buy a Westfield??
SR20DET is a cracking engine however the only place you'll find it with 4WD transmission is the Pulsar GTIR which hasn't the strongest of 'boxes. |

Perhaps in time I will by a 4WD Lancer of some description. They're certainly all round better cars despite being heavier....maybe when you lot wake up and smell the coffee you'll realise you should of bought something better too.:)

"a bad workman ..." As for buying a Westfield I'm not put off since the feedback is far much greater when approaching the limits. Rather than the Type-R's soft feedback when grip limit is reached. Also far more controllable. |

I know this is a Subaru site and everything, but the guy had one, didn't like it and so is moving on and for that he's a troll? He's entitled to his opinion whether you agree or not. Don't be so bloody superior!

There's various ways to construct a sentance especially so on a Subaru Forum & more so within the Impreza section! You can be sensitive to your audience or be all troll like & attempt to wind people up. IMHO the OP falls in to the latter category :smug:

There was no wind up intended in the orginal post.
It's just the Type-R dissapointed me due to it's handling characteristics. In tight corners getting back on the power is near impossible unless the apex is passed. Yes, I should've done more research and found out that the DCCD can only be operated up to the first orange light in dry conditions. Though still it remains prominently RWD biased when going up to the first orange light. If that wasn't bad enough, the feedback wasn't that great for when the car was about to break it's grip limits. Should of chosen a regular STi v5 or P1. Then there's the dissapointing reliablity of the flat four as I previously mentioned. The Type-R being the worst of the bunch along with the P 1. This is one of the main issues. Why I'm being scorned for this beggers belief!!!:wonder: Both API and GGR informed me of this, confirmed by many other Subaru specialists and threads on site. I figured if I was keep my Type-R it'd need a rebuild within the next year or so. Why bother to spend out for rebuild and 1K's worth or tuning to bring it up to 350 bhp when I can sell the Impreza and buy a Westfield with 220 bhp. Capable in every respect of embarassing a 350 or even 400 hp Impreza on most of our roads......and costs a hell of alot less to maintain.:luxhello: |
