NF Octane booster. Can it really give 10+ bhp
Having recently bought some NF Race Formula octane booster, (but not taken car out yet as new wheels coming on Tuesday:luxhello: ) I was looking at a reputable re-map company who had various bhp outputs for un-mapped and re-mapped cars. In a seperate box was an additional bhp rating for the NF.
Am I going to explode into hyperspace with this stuff :wonder: or is the site being a bit optimistic. Also, will a stronger than normal concentrate in the tank give more power or is there a limit as to the performance/efficiency gained? |
Running a small amount of NF will allow your ECU to advance the ignition if it is not already at the maximum setting. Adding NF and mapping the car for that fuel will allow you to run more ignition advance. Ignition advance is one of the factors influencing torque output, response and crispness.
Adding 2mls/litre NF to V-Power probably takes the fuel over 100 RON if the advertised claims are correct. It certainly allows the engine to run an extra 2 degrees, perhaps more, ignition advance which has to be a good thing. |
Isnt that stuff like 15 quid for a small bottle?!
|
£17.50 inc postage but it does about 60 litres worth and if it saves a blown engine....
|
17quid a fill up? You must have got something wrong there>
|
Work it out if its 2ml per litre that would be 120ml per fill up of 60 litres, how much is in a bottle?

I personally think it's unwise to map the car with octane booster. If you use the performance of the car frequently, you need to use the stuff pretty well all the time. Much wiser to map the car on your favorite fuel and save the OB for when you want that extra bit of security and if you ever need to use ordinary unleaded.
If you map the car with it, don't ever moan when the price of fuel goes up! JohnD |
300ml in a bottle, for everyday use, 1ml per litre of fuel, otherwise, 5ml per litre.
Car was mapped on high quality UK fuel so the NF will be a bonus. |
I made 20bhp and 40 lb/ft of torque with a 3rd of a bottle added. I pay about £11.50 a bottle.
|
I think I'll stick the whole bottle in :norty: :thumb:
|
You need to map for it mind.

Jay how do you measure it out?
Banny |
my car has water/meth injection and is mapped for 10% methanol in the V-power fuel- running 350bhp,333lb's/ft
I'm trying some NF race formula sourced from Roger Clarke at 5ml/litre. The ECU seems to have responded, the car pulls the same in 2nd,3rd and 4th. Torque definately raised and the car sounds better. Just have to be really carefull were I put the power down. |
:norty: As soon as my new wheels come, (hopefully tomorrow) I will fill the tank and add the NF. Will check out the results

I use it all the time. About £11 a bottle also. Buy it from Roger Clark MS in bulk. Just remember to change your plugs frequently if always used. |

Banny Refill just before light it on. Empty half the bottle, pour it in, top up with VPower, use the funnel to get the rest back in the bottle. *Ta-da* Easy done, only 1 person asked what i was doing in over a year. |
there are plenty of other options nowadays that are considerably cheaper than NF and just as/more effective.
methanol can be down to 58ppl if you know someone E85 is about 85ppl |

Good idea, I am going to be mixing mine in with the methanol I already run. What would be the best amount 2 or 3ml a litre?
Banny |
I believe 'Scotimax' is 3ml per litre but best ask your mapper.
IIRC the break point for diminishing returns is 3ml / litre |
I used to run NF all the time, and had it mapped for it - one bottle per tank.
Compared to before, it made the same peak power but more 20lbft more torque and the power band seemed slightly wider too. However, it also made my engine feel a bit more lumpy at the bottom end, not as "smooth" if that makes sense. Made 353/354 on deltadash. Now running an E85 mix and 0.1bar more boost and torque is up a whopping 38lbft from the NF map and max power increased too. Currently at 391/392 on same deltadash with same settings. I switched from NF due to the prohibitive cost, but I'm happy I tried E85 as it seems to make my car happy, and it's as cheap as petrol so "free power". Not going back to NF in a hurry :) |

I use NF on my car. I use 100mls each time round.
I'm anal enough to have loads of pre made bottles at the go. It's mapped on the stuff but only 100mls lol. So if I want to add more I add more. If not I just leave it to 100mls. Steve |

I'd be doing the same, but i need injectors as well apparently. :(

Just out of curiosity I'm running water / methanol injection from a 12 litre Spec C tank in the boot of my Bugeye sorted by Matt and Olly at RCMS :) TD05 Deadbolt 18G with a few mods at 400 ish BHP and 2 wrecked newage 5 speed gearboxes :) Now on a Jap 6 speed gearbox and just wondering what will break next LOL What are you running with your water and meth injection ? Cheers Shaun |
lol, water, and methanol? ;)
you have to run a 50/50 mixture generally to prevent it being flammable. |

Gaz, what duty/cycle are they running now, presumably they're 550's?
Cheers Trevor Not much change from £1k, just for a little tweak. :freak3: |

94% D/C on standard STi injectors. So i'm guessing i'll need bigger ones for the E85 remap?!?
