MOBIL 15w/ 50
Anyone using this oil, i have a full steel forged CDB, bottom end and im due a first running in oil change. I'm struggling to find a 10w/60 or 10w/40-50 FS OIL. This mobil 1 15w/50 seems a quality oil. Any comments will be good

As performance does the millers 10-60 as its whats in my car
|
use motul 10-40 from opie oil .
|
So the mobil is pants or what. It is a dedicated performance oil and easily bought, but is it suitable for my lump as 15w seems to be quite thick
|
Hi i have been using Mobil-1 15/50 in my UK turbo for 8 years.
bottom end only just gave up at 114000 miles and it was running 283 bhp for about 7 years then about 350 bhp after that so i think thats very good. |
Send a PM to SunnySideUp and get his opinion. :lol1:
|
Why has he had experience of this oil.
|
Hi webby v7 (etc).
There has been an oil thread lately.... I was advised to run a 10w-40 not the 10w-60 Millers CFS I have in currently. The positive is that my hot idle oil pressure is up from around 2.1 bar to 3.9 bar, after dropping my old and tired mobil oil. HTH dunx |
Cheers dunx. All i need is somewhere to get millers from, at a decent price. Any takers:norty:
|
I also use Mobil1 15/50 have done in all my 4 scoobs.
|
Just service last week with mobil 1 15/50 so will use this for now.

I get my millers 10w60 from importcarparts with a genuine filter and a new sump plug washer for £49. I've bought a lot of parts from them and they've been really good with delivery (not sure if they are the cheapest but their good service is the reason I use them) |

|
Have a look at their website (they do the 10w40 too) here's the contact page..
Contact Import Car Parts You can order it online too. |
Not this again!!
ANY API spec oil will do the job. I spend £20 on an oil change including filter and sump crush washer and 5 litres of semi synth. I run in excess of 450bhp and have had no problems whatsoever since using this. I will admit to changing my oil every 4000 miles or so though. I guess if you want longer between changes then pay double the price but personally I think the expensive stuff is completely over rated. As for Mobile 1 it's as good as any other premium brand. |
Mine is usually in for six months, may go on track twice a year.
imho, thrashing a std car is just as hard on the oil. dunx |
After having spoken to several respected tuners, i have been advised that the best oil for my Fully forged steel CDB is in fact 15w/50, not the oil you lot tried to imply on me. Thanks for the input guys, but i know what im buying now. Adios.

That's a real world example from someone who who isn't trying to sell you anything. I shall also be using the exact same stuff in my new build that will be running circa 600bhp and hopefully similar torque. Hasta La Vista :D |
out of interest daz, if you wouldnt mind saying what brand of oil are you using?
|
|
After having mine rebuilt, I went with what API recommended & use ..."a good 10w 40 semi synth" ...so Mobil 1 Super S for me (but as above, i do change it every 3-4.5K) £25 for 5L & readily available i.e Halfrauds stock it!
|
Forged 2 litre running 450bhp @ 1.8bar, running faultlessly on millers 10w60 for 10k. How is that for real world experience for you.
Banny |
If our input is of so little value, don't bother asking us next time ?

Comma XT2000 15w-40 Motor Oil - 5 Litres [CO-XT25L] - £17.99 - Wilco Direct - For All Your Motoring Needs ;) No, seriously. As long as it meets the basic requirements and is changed at intevals to suit the driving style and usage, its fine. :thumb: |
I use the millers 10-60w as its what ZEN put in after the engine was run in :D
|
seen this going cheap, anyone tried this?
Mobil Super M 15W/40 5L from Halfords Was £18.99 Save £3.80 Price £15.19 Save 20 percent off all 5 Litre Mobil Oils the one and only review says its for diesel engines but halfords say its "specifically recommended for use in all types of vehicles"??? |
