Bank-card problems, urgent help needed.
My youngest is at a garage near King's Lynn, his bank card is declined. There IS money in the account but the cash machine spits the card out too, so obviously the card is fekked.
He has no other means of payment. MY bank takes 3 days if a transfer money via the internet and is closed now, as is his. What does he do? |

Which bank are you with - most banks only take two hours now - any time of day or night.
|
Can you pay with your card details over the phone?
|
Go go go!
http://www.bigfoto.com/miscellaneous...-marks-301.jpg As long as the station holds something like his license they should be okay for him to come back and settle the bill, unless they are arseholes. I forgot my wallet a while back and someone behind me offered to pay for my petrol:eek: did not know people like that still existed. Fortunately the tesco clerk was fine with me coming back and paying. |

has he got something on him to leave with the garage mate?
Only his mobile, they have offered but he is loathe to leave it. Needs it for work etc. I seriously doubt he has his license with him. He's apparently offered a few cards, i.d the like, but the garage didn't want to know. |
Do you both use the same bank? With lloyds it's instant transferring to my wifes account

Sound like they're being awkward. He could try again the bank may have been down? This happened at the carphone warehouse went to draw money and failed, lloyds system failed.
What cash machine is he using the garage one? Might of ran out of money? |

Nope, he's with RBS and HSBC.
I can't understand why the garage won't let you pay over the phone with your card :wonder: |
Nor me, Lee. Asian gentleman, he'll probably not know what/ho to do it.
|
Have you got the number of the garage. I am so tempted to ring and give them a yelling.
Poor lad, he will be frantic. Is the Manager not about??? |

if he leaves his names address (verified by his driving licence) then i would simply drive off
i am pretty sure the rozzers would noy (and could not) do anything about it |
Yeah, I see that.
He's asked THEM to ring the local Dibble, but they won't, unless he drives off, so now he's driven off. I'm just trying to ring them myself. Jeez. |
If you attempt to pay, but do not, it is a civil matter I think. If you just drive off without any intention, then it's criminal.
I've paid over the phone for a tenner of petrol for my ex-boss before. It was fine, he gave me it back and everything... :) |

If he has driven off, lets hope he is on his way to the Police station to explain what has happened.
God knows what the clown at the garage will tell them |

Could he drive to the local police station and explain whats going on? Have some sort of producer or something?
I'm with HSBC if I can be of help mate, got about £45 in there I could lend Gary :) |
We do it all the time when couriers find themselves caught out - never ever been a problem. We pay by credit card, job done, everyone happy.
|
looks like they are being assholes, they should give him a form to fill in with the usual stuff name, address, contact number, make, model, reg of car, colour etc..Time you will return to garage it's called an inability to pay form...

Plod knocked on my door one night as my car had driven off without paying for fuel at local Tescos.
Turned out it was my son who had bought a few things and put a fiver of petrol in and forgot to tell them (his head was in a mess as he had just split from gf). Plod were sympathetic and, of course, I said I would pay up immediately but a phone call from them or Tescos would have been enough. I did say that even my son is not daft enough to nick a fiver's worth of petrol from his local garage in full view of cameras. Plod agreed and moaned about having to do Tesco's work for them. Your son's garage seem dickheads so I hope it's sorted but don't expect any help from the banks :p dl |
Can he leave the car there and try a cash point nearby?
could have 'failed' for all sorts of reasons |
Hope this is sorted out now.
About five years back a law was still in place tied in to the sales of petroleum act or something like that...... The contract of the purchase of petroleum can be settled within seven days. The vendor of said product could not prevent you from purchasing and paying later on production of satisfactory identification. I'm sure the local plod will be ok about it. Just ask them to confirm if any markers have been placed on the registration if it's been reported. |
The garage is being silly. They have the facility & ability to handle cards manually, is the good old mag stripe & sig
What do you think they do if the phone linez go down? Shut the forecourt? I'd go straight back and pay one he's got the funds and get on the blower to plod. The garage will prolly say it's a drive off, then there's no protracted questioning Mart |
I'm sure the chap could manually enter the numbers in to the card reader behind the till.
Failing that, find the nearest cash point, withdraw funds and go straight back to pay. |
Sounds to me like the garage are being aholes.
I work in the industry and a bank can decline for whatever reason they choose, and soem systems show the referal message as a decline too, even though its a manual auth thats needed. The only differeance between a customer present transaction, verses a customer not present 1 is the % the bank charge for the transaction. |
