Hatchback sti pro's & con's
Alright guys,
I'm considering buying a hatchback sti in a few months time, probably a 08/58 plate. What's the pros and cons with these, also is there anything I should be looking out for when going to view one? Cheers Kev |
Have a read at the sticky at the top regarding engines.
|
Ensure the reflash Files have been carried out in regards to ringland fracture
|
Pro's: it's got 5 doors.......
Con's: it looks like a Rover 25:D |
Cheers rob, i have read that there was issues with the engine but want entirely sure what
|
Engine worries aside its pro after pro after pro, love mine and cannot find a thing to replace it with that does everything it does!
|
More civilised than all previous Scoobs - a great car to drive, all the goodies, + its a hatch !
Just make sure the engine is OK. (+ sevice history/usual checks). Try to get the top spec Euro Premium Import spec or 330S. You'll pay peanuts extra for a whole heap of extra goodies. |
I used to hate the hatch until I bought one, love the practicality and performance. it's the only car you can shove a couch in the boot and still beat an M3 at the traffic light GP :D
|
Pros - Best Scoob ever... :thumb:
Cons - Only a mad man would buy a standard car, as more than 1 in 10 have had engine failures (get a rebuilt one with forged internals). :cuckoo: A |
The best subaru since the classic wagon :D
Practical looks fantastic and it goes very well |
That's what I'm looking for, love being able to chuck my bike/snowboard etc in the back of my wagon so the hatchback seems like the perfect upgrade. Did look at a r32 as well but I think I would miss the impreza burble too much
|
Good grief, you lot....should have gone to Specsavers!
|
Each to their own alcazar

It's not top wack, £445 is still a rip off though
|
Pro's, they really improved the car, better interior, nice looking, better handling etc, and the JDM's have the twin scroll engines :D
Con's, they put the 2.5ltr engine in some of them :( Tony:D |
Apart from the high tax band, i think the hatchback Sti is a great all round motor and definitely a step up from the blob/hawkeye sti (even in the looks department) but would rather source a used car thats been rebuilt with stronger internals or a 2ltr Jdm over a brand new for fear of engine failure:(
The hatch has definitely grown on me since it was first released, just a shame i cant afford or warrant having one sitting in the garage and never being driven. |
Always liked the Hatch.....would like to have one in the future :thumb:....didn't realize they had an issue with the engines though .....still like one though ;)

The twin scroll JDM's dont have issues though and are a better car ;) Tony:D |
Plus they lose the "chav car" stigma attached to all the previous scoobs;)
|
Pro- Cheaper to insure than my last subaru
|
Lots of pro's over previous models. Subaru number 4 for me and easily the best.

Depends on what colour car, don't look bad on silver or white cars, certainly better than the 07 Hawk, they were horrendous, and chrome!
|
I'm looking at getting a grey one with smoked rear lights. Not so in your face I think
|
The red outer and smoked inner look pretty cool on a grey car.
