re: p1's do blow up
Hi,
I agree P1's are one of my fav's too...
No strike that they are still my fav!
I've had 2, both on a Y and both tuned.
Both circa 350bhp and yes I did blow the second one too bits. A £3000 bottom end rebuild from Subaru and I think I was lucky.
But I really must confess I did treat her mean!
Anyone who is thinking of an early style Impreza cannot ever overlook a P1 they are brilliant. very tunable and perfect for UK A-B roads.
2 things to watch for, 1 good service history in particular because any neglect on the engine is going to bite back one day soon and get the brakes sorted because even the Prodrive upgrade was inadequate (sry Mr Smith :-) ) but if you've ever pushed a P1 to it's limits you'll soon find it needs some 6 pots minimum. I had Billet 6 pots with 355mm discs and they stopped it for sure. Braking down from 155 it had so much stopping power I eventually wrecked my front drive shafts. Oh what happy memories...
If you could get a LHD conversion I'd buy one tomorrow.
Good luck.
