Stunning car. Good "Pre Owned" STi's are so rare in South Africa ...
I have my heart set on a early 2005 registered "Demo" one: Managing Director of the local Subaru agents car, spotless, 6,500 Km - also in BLACK
Only problem is someone else has an option on it, been like two months now, hope he goes away I won't be ready to buy before October
Whoever buys yours is in for one hectic car! If I lived in the UK I would be making you an offer

But at <£19k, your JDM fits my budget - but only just!
What sort of insurance costs have you been paying? And what about servicing intervals and costs (and how easy to find someone to service it)? Since I'm Salisbury/Wiltshire based, Litchfield is not too inconvenient for me I suppose.
Or, to put it another way - give me your sales pitch!!!

No Impreza is going to be 'cheap' to run, but a JDM certainly isn't any worse than a UK in that respect. They hold their value a bit better, mine's been remapped to run on the same fuel, and you're free to go to independent specialists rather than having to pay main dealer prices for servicing and maintenance.
The '05 car is built on the Spec C chassis, so it handles much like that car while retaining all the soundproofing and creature comforts of the standard model. My car is a 'ZL' spec which means all the toys, and the AST suspension kit is fully adjustable so you can have it relatively soft for day-to-day use and then stiffen it up for when you're in the mood.

Tim, if you work out the mpg from a 22 mpg car to a 30 mpg car over a years motoring, its hardly a lot. A few hundred quid or so. I was surprised when I worked this out.
In a world where a lot of JDM cars are "iffy" - this one is totally mint. I have no association with the car, and would like to buy it but its just out my reach unfortunately.
Go for it, a JDM is a far and away better car than a UK one.

for waht its worth i was slightly paranoid about getting a JDM,. having come for a uk spec and the warrenty that comes with them i felt nervous to say the least. a year and half later i'm positive i made the right choice of car and have never looked back. Buy this car- you won't regret it
btw Andy, how did you find the T25 set up over the oe? i'm booked in for it in a week

There's absolutely no comparison between the T25 setup and the OE. Ride quality, grip, handling and steering feel are all transformed. I found the OE suspension fidgety, nervous and bumpy - with the T25 kit it's still quite firm but it's totally planted and the handling is exceptional.

As the American's say..."I here ya"!
Having run two scoobies before (MY98 turbo wagon, and MY01 bugeye WRX) I'm no stranger to 23 mpg, but I was fortunate enough to have these as company cars so servicing and insurance was not my problem.
Now I am going it alone, I have to consider these, but I'm encouraged by what I hear. I'm waiting on a quote from A-plan to see what the insurance damage is, and have been studying Litchfield imports' servicing PDF, and have been pleasantly surprised.
I will try and get to see this car next week and will take it from there.
Driving around today, I've been imagining what it would be like if I was behind the wheel of an Impreza again instead of the diesel BMW. Nuff said :-)

.... just a small warning about the Miltec ... it gets loud on a warm twin scroll and you'll need the 'bung' if you are going to track it .... unless they've changed the exhaust build since they did mine.
Incidentally, my APlan renewal was £550 with some points and 1 yr NCB but I am an old(ish) fart !

'Type 20' is really just the name of a complete package that Litchfields sell, based on a JDM STI and fitted with AST suspension, Whiteline anti-roll bars front & rear, a full Milltek exhaust and a remapped ECU. It's a derivative of the 'Type 25' which they did first, which also replaces the 2.0 litre block with a 2.5 plus other engine modifications. (I think the official T20 package also includes the front lip spoiler, but although it looks good it does sit quite low and can easily catch on things. That's why I didn't get one).
The standard exhaust is pretty quiet - I'd recommend keeping it for a while and then, if you still want to replace it, get it done at the 20k service. I do know that there's more than one version of the Milltek package and that it's under constant development, so again I'd suggest speaking to Iain Litchfield about what options are currently available.
ps. my car also includes a rather nice pair of Autostyle's best floormats with STI logos - no need to buy T20 ones

The Miltek is liveable day to day and is quiet compared to many others ... its just when you get over 4.5-5k and hoofing it that it bellows.
As has already been said too .. there are many variants and I am sure there have been developments as mine was fitted back in May05 and I know that Litchfields and Powerstation were having sound issues at some points in the past so they wouldn't have wanted that to continue.
In terms of whether there is any benefit in converting to a Type 20 ... I doubt it to be honest .. its predominantly a branding thing ... Andy's and mine are as good as the same .... and at this price it is an absolute steal ...
