Unhappy

Unfortunately, i agree, it's overpriced.

People selling Golfs with over 100,000 miles say "ah yes but it doesn't matter on a Golf as they're only just run in then".

People buying Golfs say "but it's done over 100,000 mate, there are loads with lower mileage in Autotrader etc".

Lovingly cared for though it is, that's £1000 overpriced. If it was a 16v, G60, Rallye, Campaign or anything similar, then maybe, but not a standard 8v, there are just too many around. But as a Golf owner i would be extremely pleased to be proved wrong. Good luck with the sale anyhow please let me know what you do get for it.

Cheers for the comments - though don't agree with them totally.

If you look through Autotrader the prices of similar age Golfs vary between £1,500 to £4,000! The upper price being Mint condition 16 valvers with average mileage, the lower price being "well run in" 8 valvers without anything "extra".

The book price for this age (and for 11 years old that is average mileage) is £2,400 - this car has CD player, alloys (not the standard steel wheels), Thatcham 2 alarm and Immobiliser.

There may be a couple of hundred quid negotiating room but no way is it £1k over...

BTT

that doesnt up the price of your car because youve got add ons mate.
I could buy £2000 worth of stereo and wheels but it wouldnt make my car worth £2000 more. It was your choice to put the wheels and stereo in and id say that it adds a few hundred quid on the price.

Cool

I sold my J plate a couple of almsot a year ago for £1800 IIRC but I had to spend £300 on it getting the Head welded as I couldn't sell it with a clear concience. 132K miles so 2K ono isn't too unreasonable although I didn't get too many takers.

I recon £2600 ono isnt too bad altough you'll find out from what ppl offer you.
[edited to say yours sounds around 500quid better than mine was]

Cool

Kempo,

Fair enough - like i say i hope you're right!
The only other variable in this equation is the colour - red Golfs aren't the most sought after i've been told. Indeed, when i sold my Mk2 16v a few weeks ago, it was surprising how many people called just on the basis that it was Oak Green. It seems white and red aren't as favoured, don't know why. Still, if you get 2.5k, job well done.

yeah the Oak green was a limited edition one so its very sought after!! wish i had seen this just bought a GTI 3 months ago phew she needs some work on her though!! but at £1300 i couldnt complain

PS i only bought my golf as a run about instead of putting miles on the WRX .. but i kind of dare i say it prefer its rawer qualities!!

Fair comments Guys, will have to see how many people are interested. The wife "needs" around £2,500 so she can get her MR2

I dare say as time goes on she'll settle for what is offered to get a speedy sale
