1999 STiV Sale - testing the water
#1
1999 STiV (Version 5) Model Code GC8F4ED
Metallic Black, 28500 miles in absolutely stunning and unmarked condition. The car has been maintained to the highest level. Since owning the vehicle a number of extras have been added to preserve its A1 condition. The car has had a complete new STiV engine imported new from Japan, the original failed due to a cam belt tensioner failure and was replaced under warranty. The new engine is Not reconditioned and is a genuine NEW version 5 item, the receipt details the no expense spared approach £8500. Since the NEW engine (2800miles ago) installation a knock link and complete new ECU (GEMS) has been fitted (£2100) and mapped to ensure there is no detonation anywhere in the rev band. The power remains fairly standard at 300 BHP but with 300+lbs of torque at 3400 rpm. These extras, which are summarised below, ensure the car is better than new and will run reliably on UK fuels. I am interested in only genuine enquiries and have a genuine reason for a very reluctant sale. My brother has a P1 and by his own admission there is no contest when it comes to performance. Indeed my car has other nice extras that include electric retractable mirrors and climate control. In addition the rev counter is where it should be i.e. in the centre of the instrument cluster.
For full pictures of the car visit my web page using the link but pictures do take a while to pop-up because of high resolution >> http://www.jfoster.dsl.pipex.com/Page4.htm
Details of Extras
* Full GEMS engine management system -
Dual switch selectable maps for 95 and 98 RON UK Fuels
Launch control/anti-lag system (switch control)
Shift change light
Optional centre diff control
ECU Does away with poor lambda sensor and air flow sensor
* 17" Speedline alloys fitted with new Goodyear Eagle F1's
* HKS Group N down-pipe S/Steel wide throat
* JASMA S/S exhaust
* Cat 1 Cobra alarm and Tracker System
* BLITZ mesh S/S induction system
* Pioneer Organic display CD player
* Knock Link sensor
* TAROX grooved front discs
* IC Air splitter
The extras fitted are worth around £5500.
I am looking for £17,500 which reflects condition but I am not under any great pressure to sell. Considering the fact the car has what amounts to a brand new engine that has just completed 2800 miles and another host of quality extras I think the car is priced very fairly.
If anyone has any comments let me know. If there is little interest then so be it and I will just have to keep it.
Cheers,
Julian

Hiya
I think the price is a little high m8.
Its a beauty of a car for sure but against current STi5 prices (cars with similar mods) its a little expensive.
Not a critisism - just friendly advice.

Cheers Ro,
Yeah I did think the price maybe a little high. But with the mileage and engine mods we are looking at £14K spent in the last 12 months or so.... I personally would pay a bit extra for the peace of mind and what amounts to a better motor.
To be honest I could not sleep happy as an owner of a STiV or 4 knowing what UK fuel does to the engine. If you aren’t sure then mail me off net and I will explain else fit a knock link or put a set of det cans (headphones) on which are connected to the engine block and listen to your engine after 3000rpm on acceleration. Believe me it makes you wonder.
Anyway no such problem with the GEMS fitted, I have total peace of mind and had headphones on whilst mapping. My mapper asked if I wanted to listen to the final setup and I guess that sealed it for me. Sweet as a nut... and no nasty hand grenades going off!!
Anyway, like I said if I don't sell it is no real drama just a very annoyed wife and a slower house move.

John,
Then I guess you have hooked up DET CANS to your block?? I think not.
I don't wish to sound patronising but..
I have run on both Octane booster and Optimax. It is simple, the std ECU only retards on recognition of DET i.e. after it has happened, even with Booster + Optimax this will still happen and it is NOT good. The STiV ECU is run close to and some argue beyond its max even for Japan. Therefore the concern is justified.
The only way to have true peace of mind is to map each car with each particular set-up. Then as in my cars case there is NO DET.
Even e.g 120 MPH off throttle then crack it full open, NOT transitional DET.
This is true peace of mind but by my own admission a bit conservative.
Thanks for the comments all,
Joules

Cheers Steve,
I guess mine must have been pushing a little more advance and boost when std. The boost spikes will have been as a result of the group N DP. So the advice to all would be at least check and go from there.
Thanks all,

Price reduction
Taking other sale prices into account and the advise of wise minds I guess I should reluctantly drop the price on my STiV.
This despite the fact some dealers i.e. C & K are selling identical cars less the extras for £17K.
Therefore £15,500 ~£16,000 may be more realistic, that said I am not in any rush to sell but the wife is getting more irate. Just need more headache tablets...lol

Yuor car sounds mint, and if I hadnt brought my Sti version 6 I would of made you an offer.
Noticed the thread comments though, read them and now Im starting to worry. I have a STi version 6. And although I run it on optimax + oct. boost to stop pre det, Im now thinking this wont stop now.
When I brought the car it had some ecu alterations which allowed "MOre fuelling". Is a way of also stopping pre. det ?

Si,
I would say fit a knock link.... they give a pretty good indication if serious DET is going on. A number of people will say don't worry and that is up to them. I can only tell my experience and that included a mapping session of 2Hrs + and 127 miles. I therefore can say I was surprised at the DET going on prior and during the mapping session.
It maybe comforting for some to say ..naa just use Optimax + Booster. I say this as a warning so please don't overreact ANYONE but it is best to be safe than sorry. Head in the sand behaviour could bring tears.
The price of a Knock Link is small and this is some sort of safeguard. Of course I took the extreme (Safe) route.
