93 WRX
#1
Hi, looking to buy from a trader a 93 WRX, 43k miles, some Jap history at £6795. I have a part ex , a 1989 M3 Evo 2,Misano Red,service history. He is going to check what he will give for the BMW and let me know Monday.
What do you think about the price of the WRX at £6795?
Any general advice regarding the purchase of a WRX appreciated. I have looked it over already, no oil or water leaks, drives ok, steering seems light compared to PAS on the M3.
Thanks in anticipation
Kevin

Some early WRX's had problems with the ECU's, not giving full boost all the time. Ask if the cambelt has been done as its expensive and it should have a new one at that age. Check for accident damage as these cars get driven hard, price seems a little high but you get what you pay for.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies.
The M3 Evo 2 I wish to trade is a 89 102 0f 500, Misano Red, 148,000km, abs,pas ,half leather,cat 1,service history and in excellent condition.
What is the going rate for a cam belt change on a WRX?
Can anybody point me to some price guides for a WRX?
Cheers

I paid just under 6k for my 93Wrx, the first month I brought it I had a major service and cambelt change at about 500 pounds, I then spent 400 on a re-chip and tune as it was not running well on our low octane rating fuel.
The std brakes are ok for a 1.0L Mini, 400 pounds later and they are far improved.
Next ditch the std 15" Alloys, just check the insurance, I'm still trying to pay off my credit card bill
If you buy which has been pre-uk owned then the above may have been changed, my car is now running 275bhp and is the best car I have owned.
In hindsight now the prices have dropped I would have brought an STi or a Type R, but still I love it. The car already had Cat1, Hks filter/Hks Exhaust/Hks Evc, which were a much added bonus.
All the above IMO
Cheers and good Luck

Rip off mate! Ive just imported my black 95 wrx. It comes with a straight through exhaust, 2 sets of 16 inch alloys and it is much cheaper than that! Thats including all the SVA test, 6 months tax etc! Import it yourself and you will save yourself loads and get a much better deal! Email me if you need some help with importing!
If you want the car quicker than a month, drop me an email anyway as i know a few dealers who have the cars overhere and will sort me a good discount for you! lol

Complete bollocks on these prices, don't forget the advantages of buying from a dealer, you are covered by Trading standards + warranty etc + not stolen + etc. 6,700 is about right, don't forget he has to make some cash for 5K you get complete crap!!!

I brought mine 6 months ago for under 6k, it's a good car but I had to spend money on it, you pay your money to take your choice.
Not bad for a 93 car, at only 0.9 bar it ran 275bhp on the rollers.
Since the last six months, the prices have dropped, I just wish the f**********g insurance would.
Why is jap import insurance more than a uk model? They are both from the same country, my car is nearly 10 years old and i'm paying 1.3k a year with a fat excess
Last car I had was a Vr6 Corrado with a charger running the same bhp worth more and I paid 400 pounds less with less excess

I Payed £6700 to a dealer for my MY93 WRX which was standard except for the 16" Gold STi wheels it had 55k miles on the clock and came with a 12month 5* RAC warranty that was 3 months ago
I am happy with it and the only thing I might have done differently is save up some more money and bought one of the STis that always seem to being sold on here at low prices. But overall very happy with it but I just cant stop spending money upgrading it!!
edited to add it had just had a major service, cambelt change, 12 month MOT, new front breaks, new clutch and a couple of slight parking dings removed (that I saw when I test drove it)basicaly if you are paying dealer money make sure they send it out right
