as far as i know it is direct replacement but on my uk 00 the dumpvalve mounts direct and this is the sti type, im pretty much the sam as you as far as being new to it all.....it is better than standard ones and can handle more boost etc, it has samco hoses and a shield.they would cost around 140 new and i have seen an intercooler the same but without pipes and shiels for 175 on its own...I paid 180 for the whole thing.... afriend who works local his mate did a front mount in/cooler and i got that one.
his was runnin 310bhp with that one and wanted 400bhp so changed it.....ive decided to let the remainder on my warranty run out (1 more year) so changed mind about messin too much with the enging for now.

Hi chaps, what you have there is an STi4 TMIC (Top Mounted Inter-Cooler) which, as you state, have a remotely mounted BOV/Dumpvalve.

An STi5 TMIC has the BOV/DV bolted directly to it and the complete unit heralds better gains Vs the STi4, one purely on the basis of its internal design/volume/flow etc.

As you can guess, the STi5 is the one to go for, but requires fettling of a remote BOV adapter for use on 97-98MY UK/STi phase#1 engines and even more fettling on pre 97MY engines with pipework etc.

Hope this helps in some way....

Jacko.

What are the fins like behind the grill?

The Intercooler on my STI is the same, but some of them have been straightened after large flies have committed suicide and so im just after a neater looking one.

I was gonna ask the same question, what are the fins like. I brushed mine with a powerjet the other day and bent a whole load of em. straightened em out but they still look wack.

fins behind the mesh are good...underneath people fingers have folded ove some in places (about 15%) have been straightning them with tweezers...............bent fins will do no harm to the boost. as long as air can pass it is ok. fins are not structural!
it is in need of a clean only otherwise good condition (have seen worse on newer ones.
75 is too low! soz
