Hello everyone, i'm just putting my car on here to see what interest i get. I'm in no hurry to sell it(as i love it) & the money will go towards a house. I DONT WANT A CHAT ABOUT THE PRICE, i know its one if the best out there.
Its a 1999 S reg,late version 5 type R,NEVER been driven in Japan,imported brand new,all import docs,including hotel receipts & shipping tags,full subaru history,no track days,dry use,never had paint or any slight dings.
Climate A/C,twin air bags,electric everything,etc etc.

Nope rebuild was my choice as i was going to go mad on the engine and put lots of power up it,but plans changed. standard ecu is a good thing, VERY good. Dont touch a chipped one.

i wouldnt say expert,but i never buy anything without looking into everything first. I'm pleased with how my cars come out. it sounds out of this world, i get other scoob owners stop me all the time to ask what exhaust i have on it.

Very nice and very clean car. Only a few bits left to get the most out of it and improve on what you've started.

better flowing downpipe and exhaust spring to mind first, but its horses for courses and different people want different things...

I agree about not buying a chipped ecu as the original bout of 'chipping' sti ecu's several years ago resulted in a few going pop in the very early days (though im sure unichip would have something to say now as they are essentially 'piggy back chipping' and i've not heard many complaints about that.
Alternatively if you want big power and intend running big mods then surely upgrading the ecu to one with a faster processor and allowing you to alter air and fuel ratios to get the most from your mods WITHOUT running the risk of over fuelling etc is a good thing in my book. This car would seriously benefit from an uprated ecu to get the most from the installed mods and minimising det on available fuel and certinaly if more mods were added, but it could also benefit from a ecutek remap of the standard ecu to achieve the same goals, whether ecutek is better than link/motec/gems etc is another argument for another post.

The exhaust is one of the most efficient ones i've ever seen. I thought i'd try something different and it WORKS bloody well. To prove it the rolling road day i went to i had the 3rd highest power output. The other 2 that beat me, 1 had over 8k spent on the engine and got 319 and the other guy owned a tuning company and mapped while he was on the rollers. I had people all over my car when it got 317 with only an exhaust and air filter. It also spits flames,cracks and bangs which is cool and i love it.

As for the ECU, yes i know it would benefit from an upgrade. After the engine i was going to get a Link ecu and one of the VF turbos, but plans and money changed. Also id rather hack off my own kneecaps rather than touch anything made by Unichip. If i did it it was going to be done properly. I'd never cut a corner!

Main reason for my comment on the exhaust was that the hks downpipe is much restrictive than its cometitors (if you look at the operning half the hks is blanked off!) also after having seen tangos uk car go from 334 to 354 from changing from a magnex/scoobysport exhaust to a hks mid + rear section exhaust was ll i needed to see lol.

check out the 7th and 8th run and the difference between them.

i have no cats and resonator. I checked into everything when buying the down pipe and all the Japs said hks and as there cars are out of this world i took there word for it. I did look at scooby sport stuff,but decided against it. Different mods work well on different cars. His uk car sounds immpresive for a uk one. Its still got those funny door things at the back though :-)

What i dont understand paul is why would the WRC cars run on different ECU's to standard and why would there be at least 10 different manufacturers of chips/ECU's to replace the standard one giving an instant increase in power, if the standard ECU was very good? In what i have heard and understood is that the standard ECU is made well but is limited to what can be done. Thats why people change them to get better performance from their engines.

Your engine would be very very nice if it had a different ECU which was mapped to the car. Keep it and bite the bullet. Get it done as its the nicest v5 i've ever seen.

I'll be changing my ECU soon.

Your car has done 35000 miles and required a rebuild? Is this sort of thing normal?
Mine is the same model and even colour and has done 34000 miles. Am I going to have to shell out shed loads of cash soon coz I wish someone on here had mentioned that they go bang every other week!!!

one thing i'm puzzled about though...

in your ad, you say the car should be putting out more power after the rebuild. why would it be?
you have the same ecu, so are you running a lot more boost? (which is why a lot of evo owners change to cossie pistons once over the 400bhp mark)
dont take offence, as none is intended, and its a good way of keeping your ad ttt

but no doubt some potential purchasers will ask the same questions anyway.
i just dont see the point in shelling out all that money on an engine rebuild, only to hold it back with the standard ecu. something doesnt add up

I've also got one of these v5 type r's. When researching the type r, there are several interesting points. The car comes as "standard" from STI with 300 BHP, which is apparently more repeatable with UK fuels than other normal sti's, listed to have 280 BHP.

Is it that the type r is not running "standard" sti kit but uprated bit especially for the type r, or is it the standard stuff, and the normal sti is subject to the "Max 280BHP" rule in Japan?

If the STI type r has other stuff done to it to increase the power over a normal sti, woulod changing to an aftermarket kit, say an exhaust, actually be detrimental to the type r but be benifical to an sti, by delivering say 290BHP????

Ponder that one.....

I didnt go any further after the rebuild because i lost my job and didnt have enough spare money to carry on,things change and now i want some bricks and windows. I'd love nothing more than to keep it and go mad on it.

In reply all jap cars are not ment to push out over 280bhp by jap law. V5's are restricted by air box and exhaust,with out that they are ment to produce 302bhp as standard.

As everybody knows not all cars are the same,mine is just a VERY healthy and well looked after one.

Coz Jap cars are twice the price to insure so I think its a fair comment, I am sure the car is a ripper and love em but just wondered why so expensive.

for example im 23 (4years no claims) and i searched online for motor quotes:
UK Turbo = £1050
P1 (UK) = £1100
STi V5 -R= £1110

not much of a price hike really

if i'd known this when i bought my UK car - i would have got a Jap one
