Question

I am sure that there is a PRO photograper on here.I have about £20K retail price new, of boxed used but mint condition mainly Canon equipment, where would be the best place to sell it all asap. Would I be better selling it as one lot or splitting it up? This stuff is not off the back of a lorry either.

The sort of things I have are
Canon Ultrasonic EF 400mm 1:2.8 L II
Canon Ultrasonic EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM
Canon Ultrasonic EF 300mm 1:4 L
loads of other canon lenses including some Sigma ones
Filters
Flashes
Tripods
extenders
negative scanner
EOS 1V body
EOS 3 body

Ebay is the best place, we have sold all manner of things on there and always look there for anything before going to the shops. I'm just about to go looking on there for a Compact flash card.Failing that, Jessops are brilliant at part exchanging camera equipement. I have just chopped in two cameras and a flashgun in exchange for a brand sparkling new Canon Digi cam (hence the need for a CF card!). I got a very satisfying deal. They were happy and I was happy - deal done !

Someone else mentioned Jessops to me, I am just worried that they will try and fleece me or not want all the kit as there is so much.

Jessops...............dont shoot yourself in the foot.

contact Donal or Barry at Jacobs (0207 4365544)

Tell them I reccomended them to you. Donal is the companies top buyer. They will give the best price or tell you what you should get.

I am sure others Scoobynet members know them. They walk all over jessops.

I might be interested in the EOS 3 . will match any trade in price.

That's and odd collection to be selling if you're not a pro. Mind you, it's an odd collection full stop, in that some things are strictly pro items, and others are for the amateur market.

Sadly I'm a Nikon man, which means that Canon are the spawn of Satan. As a Subaru man, Mitsubishi are Satan. Just imagine how I feel about Mitsubishi driving Canon using snappers!

Best of luck, but in the mean time it's off to 'For Sale' for you.

outsider,

If it's not too far away, SRS in Watford have always given me a great deal, either straight purchase or commission sales, saves the hassle of advertising, and they're always interested in good quality canon stuff. give them a call, miht be worth it.

*Could* be interested in the 300 F4...and will dream about the 400 F2.8

Need an idea of price though - could meet or slightly beat a trade price.

LUKE : Thank you for the advice but I repeat that I was very satisfied with the deal I got at Jessops for my camera exchange. I dare say that the people you recommend give good deals too but please do not insult me by inferring I don't shop around and know a good deal when I see one.
Outsider : Yes as already mentioned, SRS in Watford are also very good with second hand stuff and know their Cameras and equipment inside out. ( bet you wish you hadn't started this now ! lol)

RSW

well that was trading in............. this guy wants a fast sale. Also jessops do not check their cameras very well. lenses !!!! dont know if anyone in the new oxford street shop would know how to check one!!!

My advice was to everyone not aimed at you. jessops are the "tescos" of camera shops..

jacobs have a higher turnover of pro equipment. That means they can pay more as its not stuck on their shelves for long. They also use one of the best repair guys in the UK (Axco in finchley) and make sure they test equipment taken in exchange etc etc.

If it's in good condition, then the lenses should go for something like half the retail price. Not sure about the other stuff. There are a few of us on here who have some decent Canon kit - post a full list with prices and you'll be able to shift most or all of it.

My friends in the trade always used the calculation 'buy in for 40%, sell for 60%', and that was for PX. Cash sale, most people will offer something nasty like 35%.

Try Amateur Photographer's ads, or something similar.

Sell it all on Ebay. ive just sold all my 35mm equipment there and got some good prices.
I had an EOS 1n with loads of lenses but i had a contract to take Motor sport photo's a while back so i need that sort of equipment.
What have you been using it for and what sort of quality is the stuff ? there is a good few grands worth of equipment there.
I took some stuff to Jessops and ended up selling it for twice the price on Ebay.

I repeat, I was very satisfied with My experience with Jessops (Market St , Watford). And I again repeat, I'm sure that all the other companies mentioned in this thread are equally good at their job. By the way, I always do my grocery shopping at Tescos, never had a problem with them, is there something I should know ?

Blimey - that list is like a dream visit to Santa's Canon camera grotto

As I said before, I'm interested in the 300 F4L, but I'm even more interested in the 1.4X II extender...come on, it's only an ickle thing in a great big list. Surely you can sell it to me

..or I'll give you £4K for the lot!

Well that's what I call a bid increment !

I think we're all in the same boat - we are interested in 1 or 2 bits.

Some of us are prepared to buy the lot then sell off the stuff that we don't want / need.

You'll definately get more for the individual items, just depends how much hassle you want.

£4100

I agree with Red Scooby Widdow - nothing wrong with Jessops (and I've been a Professional Photographer in advertising for over 20 years). It all depends upon the deal you negotiate and how much you spend each year I guess. I get trade prices from Jessops, but spend over £10,000 a year with them.

Jacobs refused to give any discount at all, and also refused to quote on a Mamiya RB67 I wanted to trade in; they said they didn't sell much Professional kit. I got an excellent price at Jessops...

I've been buying and selling photographic gear for over 25 years, and know exactly what the stuff's worth (it's not hard to work out). By the way, the S/H Nikon kit I saw in Jacobs' Newcastle branch, is around 10-20% higher than in Jessops across the road, and they won't negotiate.

Cheers

PS I should add, I'm more than happy to buy gear from both firms, when the deal is right, and that the staff in Jacobs Newcastle and Jessops Middlesbrough & Newcastle are always excellent.

Well it looks like we've got a mini eBay going on here. If you're interested in pursuing it, then I'm prepared to continue, but maybe not in public seeing we don't have the eBay engine to help us with the bidding.

Let me and Al know.

...but I'm still well interested in the 1.4x II extender.

£4250 the lot, in real folding stuff
