I've got one of these, which I think is one of the STI top mount intercoolers. It was bought with a few other Subaru bits and bobs.

It's brand new, but I'm not sure how much it's worth, and was wondering what kind of reserve to put on it on ebay. I've got an rough idea what it's worth, but I would like sensible suggestions.

I'm not so sure it's an STi version as they tend to carry an STi badge, either way it's from a 97/98 car - a good upgrade for a pre 97 car.

I paid £150 for a used STi 5/6 with a lot of bent fins but it did include the pipes underneath...

Did you get it from ATM Sport by anychance.. If so they say these are STI intercoolers but comparing against a standard MY98 IC it was exacly the same.

Question

Doesn't look like an STi one to me. More a WRX version, hence worth a little less.

Good Guess BAH.

I'm not an expert on the different models of Scoobs, but I do know my classic pretty much inside out with all the work I've done.

I've now changed my mind and would like to go the FMIC route.

So far I've got £150-£250, maybe a reserve of £150 might be a good idea.

From memory ATM wanted £250 for them, but they are just a standard MY97/98 IC not STI.

Exclamation

There is not much difference in performance of a standard intercooler and a STi intercooler (about 2%) its the piping that comes with it that gives you any gains.

see www.autospeed.com for a complete intercooler test from MY94 to MY01

Just ordered a genuine STi 7/8 intercooler from Stan Palmers after a fruitless search on Scoobynet !!

£400 odd quid plus VAT. :

If it does not have the pink STi sprayed on the top I'll be well annoyed !!

WOW NM, I've never looked on Autospeed before, I've found some great articles, nothing to do with intercoolers. Thanks!

Anyway, I'll put the intercooler on Ebay later.

That is NOT a std UK/WRX 97/98 TMIC, as they have a recess in the rear end tank (see photo's on autospeed).

Worth a few more quid for being a little different.

Thumbs up

From Autospeed

Version 3-4 (MY97-98) WRX Intercooler

'Well, the STi intercooler flows 315.7 cfm at 28-inches of water - about 2 percent better than the basic WRX core. Again, we're talking about a minimal gain. The reason for this slightly superior flow appears to be linked to the fact the STi intercooler doesn't have the recess found on the left side of the conventional Version 3-4 WRX rear end-tank.'

Your pic is of an STi unit due to lack of recess

Cheers

Neal

sti intercoolers, are all silver, and usually badged, if im correct, there is a slight diff in size, i think, also is the y section with it, as with out its, very difficult to get one, if you have one it should be nearly all alloy and not plastic, hope this helps

intresting thread!
ive just checked under my bonnet and my 97 non-sti wrx (276 as standerd) comes with that intercooler

maybe this is another slight diffrence from the high powerd jap cars to the uk cars, mine defo does not have the recess on the end tank

anybody with a 97 uk car available to confirm the uk version , im meeting my mate steve tonite il have a spy of his 97 uk car for comparison

for the record my intercooler ovb isnt silver either

Yup, interesting thread as I'm a bidder!
Checked my 1997 JDM Forester IC and even this doesn't have the recess.
I'm still bidding as the fins are pretty mashed - but I know how much ATM are charging new with the complete kit
