Question

Now that i'm thinking of getting a new shape scooby, wot can i expect for a 98 'S' UK classic Impreza Turbo in green with 54k miles, with recent cambelt service, new tyres and in excellent condition. Car is as standard.

Not a lot on here I'm finding. It's close to Christmas and everyone here expects mates rates.

I've had mine, which is a lovely car, on here for a couple weeks with people only wanting to trade.

Going to try Autotrader next week. Then I'll wait till after Christmas.

Try private before trading with a dealer. They can be very insulting.

Good luck.

Unhappy

A dealer offered me £7000 for mine against a new STI8 and I was quite gutted, mine's only done 46,000 miles so I changed my mind.
Cheers

£7k is just the trade price, nobody being cheeky at all!

http://www.parkers.co.uk/pricing/use...S%20&pay=false

You could hope for £8k in a private sale, but at this time of year, more than any, it is def hard to sell privately

Took me 6 months to sell my Mk3 Golf, and it went to a private buyer for trade price and then I got £350 NTI at the dealer for my mk4 Sometimes it better to lower the price and gain a bit at the other end too

I still see Mk3's identical to mine for £2k more than I sold mine for.... no chance of selling though!

£7k may be trade value, but when u compare it to what a trader would probably sell it for £8.5k + probably, and as for a subaru dealer, saw one advertising 98 plate scoobies for £9 to £10k.

ah well....just don't px yer car!!!

Yeah, and that's cos he makes a living from it!

If he buys at £7k, add on profit and VAT and it's probably up to the £9k+ mark... He's also got to valet it, possibly a service/MoT etc, and have some room for bargaining so he can be haggled down by up to £500 or so for no trade in etc... I don't think a dealer makes as much as we think they do!

You'll also get some form of warranty from a dealer which you don't get in *most* private sales

Mike16v,

used cars can be sold without VAT I believe?

not to mention if any vat involved then it's reclaimable. Bet dealer could make more on a used scooby than on a new one!!

Ahhhhhh, I stand corrected then...

Still, you see my point?

I see where you are coming from, but it is just a fact of life that a dealer is there to make profit on cars...
