Black E36 coupe, M3 running gear coupled to 840i V8 engine & manual gearbox.

A very rapid & unique car, one of very few RHD V8 E36’s (only a couple in the UK I believe) Original conversion costs in 1997 were in the £12k area!

Full service history, BMW dealers until 60k & BMW specialist since then, now at 105,000miles. (The V8 has done 50k of those miles)

Engine-
As standard 840i, plus- re-mapped ECU with Sytner information, stainless steel sports exhaust, ITG induction kit. A terrific characterful engine, with more torque than the USS Nimiz, yet also loves to rev and has a simply glorious soundtrack. The V8 also has none of the Vanos worries that acompany an M3 Evo either.

Chassis-
As standard M3 i.e. LSD dif etc etc, plus- firmer progressively wound Eibach springs, mated to M3 Evo shocks, uprated Eibach anti rolbars & front strutbrace.

Electric bits-
Sounds are courtesy of a quality Alpine head unit, thieves hopefully kept at bay by a quality alarm/immob, plus a Tracker.

Performance-
Well perhaps stating the obvious, but its pretty flippin’ rapid!
Its in a totally different league to normal E36 M3’s, which feel like an old 316 in comparison!
Beautifly controlable rear end & possibly the ultimate car to go & join the jap car crew at a drift challenge- if that type of thing floats ya boat.

This is a clean & straight car, the bodywork is really tidy & the interior in beige leather is in good order also.

The car offers pretty much bang on the performance of my mates new forty plus grand E46 M3 SMG, but for a fraction of the cost. Plus its got far more torque & plus a thundering V8 soundtrack too.

All things considered, it’s a bit of a bavarian bargain uber wagon really!

£8995

Thought those 840's only had 290 odd hp ?? and surely the V8 weighs more than the equivalent M3's straight 6 which has similar power....?

Or have I missed something ? bet the torque is nice however

What sort have hp did your mods give you ?

Mick- yeah the bhp is not huge, 287bhp standard, its the torque that is huge (for an N/A engine) & makes it fly, V8= 295lb/ft or 310Lb/ft as standard (dep on year) plays 258lb/ft of an M3 Evo or 177Lb/ft for an E30.

ECU been further tweeked from a stock lump now, not rolling roaded it in present spec, expect 300+Bhp & in the area of 320+lb/ft

If its not enough West tuning can do a supercharger kit to take it up beyond 400bhp!!

So similar bhp & more torque to E34 M5's but a couple of hundred less kg its more like a reliable TVR Cerbera than ya average BMW

Mates new E46 keeps up if he absolutely nails it into the red on each change, but the V8 torque make progess slightly less frantic

Ref was it a factory conv- no, BMW never built such a car in Europe as far as I'm aware, South Africa may have something similar, as manufacturers there make all sorts for the home market E30 330i's, Ford XR8's etc.

Alpina produced LHD V8 E36's (model b8 I think) but as far as im aware only one RHD was ever made for a special order, and it was at huge cost.

Shifty, the dates tie up so could well be, not many around after all!

Well come an have a look this time- make it fast, so you don't get beaten to it!

Its a fair bit more developed now that it was back then too, a lot more power and a fair bit more sorting has taken place.

Mail me off line mate, but how about you come & buy it on Saturday so then I can go & buy the Caterham I'm looking at on the Sunday with using your £ notes still warm from your grasp

Would have been very interested, but I complete on my first house purchase in just over a week's time, so new cars are off the shopping list for the forseeable future

Anyway, a BTTT for you, and another pic of the car:

sorry to hijack... you reminded me, I was taken out for a spin in a similar car the other day - this thing started life as as a 325i, old shape. engine and interior has now gone and a 430BHP 5.7 litre chevvy lump dropped in instead. Evil & Dangerous came to mind, although it was a dit damp at the time and he could'nt fully let rip, but I got the idea..

Lovely car mate, btt for ya....

What is the score regarding insurance on an engine change? What are you paying for your insurance on it at the moment? You have mail.

Huricane is your name Mark T ******? if yes you have mail, if not I don't think I got it mate.

Ref insurance & engine change, well the normal insurers more used to run of the mill tat like Corsas & Mini Metros etc etc don't like it- "we have no 4 litre 3 series's on our list Mr ****, are you sure?" me "well yes I'm prety sure, there is certainly a big V8 shoved under the bonnet!"

Anyway, Adrian Flux are fine with it.

Barry, click on the little smiley face with a question mark beside it above my post for an e-mail- I'd rather not write it here because of spammers.

Customscooby, V5 = 4000cc BMW coupe.

Customscooby- before all the conv the original car was simply a normal 325i coupe.

Thus the chassis number is/was a 325i, so you may have to say 325i 4 litre! that confuses them!
