STI 5 Momo Steering Wheel with Airbag
#1
As the title says, very good condition Momo steering wheel from STI 5. Should fit any airbagged impreza, also fits non-airbagged cars.
New price more than 550 + vat!
If you're interested, make me a sensible offer.

Moray,
sounds very interesting - have you any idea how easy it is to fit it to a car? I was under the impression (maybe wrongly) that the existing wheel needed to be removed and fitted by a specialist... at great cost.
Andy
PS. Is this steering wheel any smaller in diameter than the bus-like plastic wheel found in older models?

Hi Andy,
I've maile you offline about fitting the wheel.
Not sure about the diameter, I don't think theres very much in it, I would suspect it is slightly smaller though.

Moray,
thanks for the e-mail.
It seems like I've got MY wires in a twist...
The Momo wheel in question has an airbag and I remember a thread a while back on the BBS talking about expert pyrotechnicians (?) being required to make sure the airbag doesn't explode. Obviously you've actually removed the wheel so you'll know better than anyone what's involved!
Is there know connection between the wheel/airbag and the SRS circuitary on the car? How does the airbag know when to deploy?
Does anyone know if will fit straight onto a MY95 car?
Thanx
Andy
BTW What type of wheel have you changed to?

My STI's previous owner decided to keep the OE Nardi wheel, so it was replaced with a new STI 5 Momo wheel. My car has the older style interior, same as yours, and no srs trigger system, as with yours.
The airbag requires the circuitry/sensors in order to deploy it, it triggers if a very exact signal is sent to it, this signal would never be sent in your car as the unit would remain disconnected.
It would, of course, function correctly when fitted to a later car with SRS system fitted.

Moray,
I've got a UK Spec MY95 - which has got the big-black-bus steering wheel with Airbag (or SRS as they call it). If I whip out the ashtray and peer throught the hole there is a metal box (which looks like a hard-disk, incidentally) which says SRS etc..
Am I right in thinking that the SRS is a remotely operated system (i.e. radio waves, etc) that will activate the airbag without requiring connection? Or is it a wire connector that I need to reconnect to the new wheel?
Andy
Sorry about all the questions! Need more input....

Whoops! I didn't know 95 uk cars had airbags! Still, you learn something new everyday... Thanks!
The airbag will be conected to the triger unit through the steering wheel in a similar way to the horn push. The wheel boss will carry the earth return and a seperate wire (yellow IIRC) will carry the srs trigger signal. You should find that the wheels are interchangeable and that the Momo's airbag will be functionally identical to your current one.
As you have already got an airbag equiped car, I would suggest you get a dealer to swap the wheels, as they can make your current one safe using the correct procedure.
Maybe you could post me any more questions off-line, it would save BBS bandwidth!
Cheers,
Moray
