I have a Dutch Import standard Impreza 2.0Gt Turbo, two queries.

1 As I understood it and as written in a few places, all subarus have a 3 year manufacturers warrenty, regardless of how they get from Japan to the UK. Mine included You all seam to know loads about these things, any answers?
2. What are the servicing intervals for a Scooby?

Hello Richard..unable to answer warranty question as both me scoobs are scummy Jap imports but as regards the servicing...Initial service is at 1000 miles then at 7,500 then 15,000 etc etc. Hope this helps.

my understanding is that uk imports from Europe only have a 1 yr pan european warranty as standard.

although i'm sure you can pay extra for it to be upgraded to a full UK spec 3 yr warranty.

Richard, Subaru, like many car manufacturers, only offer a 1 year warranty. The further 2 years a UK scoob get are in fact underwritten by the importers International Motors. This extended warranty is in fact an insurance based warranty and the cost of it is included in the price paid originally for the UK car.
Service intervals are Initial @1000 miles and then every 6 months or 7,500 miles.

Steve is correct in that eu imports only have one year manufactures warranty, but as for extending it to three as far as i am aware this is not possible. I have spoken to a few people who have tried but have had no luck.

Both Joni & I were told by Alliance Car Imports that our Scoobs would have 3 year warranty because they are from (Belgium I think). Despite my insistence that no one on the BBS seems to have heard of this they seem very sure. I am expecting they have made an error and it is one year, but I pick up Saturday so we'll see. Having said that I would be a little surprised if they were wrong as they are one of the largest and most highly rated importers in the mags TG/What Car etc.

i have a belgium import. i got it in sep 1999 and i was told then by the IM that i only had 1 year warranty not 3 although in belgium subaru give 3 year warranty unlike holand. so unless things have changed.!!!!!!

Mine's an import (from Holland last month)
As far as I know all cars from Europe have only 1 years cover - shouldn't be a problem (touch wood). My last Scoob had 3 years cover and I never needed it........

Don't know if this helps but...

Just back from Spain and was looking for at a car for a friend out there.

The Subaru dealer assured us there was a 3 year warranty. I had this translated twice to be sure we understood, Can't be sure of the accuracy, a car salesman is a salesman irrespective of the language he speaks!!

The standard one year warranty is standard accross Europe. Many countries offer a 3 year warranty as part of the package but this is not transferable from one country to another as far as I am aware. So if you bought a Scooby here and moved to somehere else in Europe you would loose your extra cover in years 2 and 3.

But get this - spoke to Subaru dealer about my 3 year warranty from Belgium and here is what was said.

Dealer - you only get 1 year in the UK, not 3 years as this is for Belgium.

Me - So! If I was a Belgian tourist over here with my scoob, which is 2 years old and I bring it to you with a fault which is covered by warranty, you wouldn't repair it under warranty then?

Dealer - yes we would, and we would claim it back from Belgium.

Me - but presumably you would have to get authorisation from Belgium first?

Dealer - no, we would just go ahead with the work and then claim it back.

Me - So, now I am a brit with the same warranty, same situation arises, car 2 years old, develops a fault which the warranty covers and I bring it to you. What happens.

Dealer - you would have to pay for the repair, it wouldn't be covered by warranty!

Me - So Subaru in the UK discriminate against me because I am British!

Dealer - NO!

Me - Please Mr Dealer explain how getting different service from you simply because of my nationality is not discrimination!

Dealer - No response.


I think us owners of Belgian imports might have to talk to someone in the european court of human rights. Sureley I have the right not to be subject to discrimination! :-)

Any lawyers care to comment?

Thanks for the pointer - one dealer took the position that I got 3 year warranty, no problem, IM warranty department said 1 year - am I confused - you bet!
