Wink

I spoke to David at DRMotorsport about this before Christmas, and he said it was possible, but did point out PIAA don't give a lot to play with.
I spoke to him again today regarding prices for full kits (brackets, loom, lamps etc) and also for just the lamps.
He said they were already doing a special for the full kit at £250 inc VAT, but this could be reduced more depending on demand. And that the single lamps were about £85 inc VAT, but again could be reduced.

So everyone interested, form an orderly queue here.

I also rather cheekily asked where their banner ad was. He He. And he said after reading other recent posts, he had already been in touch with Simon regarding setting one up.

Cheers

Ace kensington seem to be charging £323.13 for it (SACC2123), including VAT but excluding fitting...

A local dealer charges £275+VAT (same as above...) for the kit alone, and labour time of 2 hours is quoted (£90+VAT), giving a princely sum of £428.88, including labour and VAT.

Worth a shot, I think

If you can find 'em for 250, rip their arm off.

I've put together some prices for PIAA lights.
We can do the full kit (lamps, covers, wiring loom, mounting brackets, etc) for £235 inc VAT.
The single lamps would be £80 inc VAT.
We would be looking at 6-10 as a minimum order for the kits.

Anyone interested please mail us at drmotorsport@lineone.net

Thanks David

Uh, yes I got the price completely wrong. Fitting is extra as is VAT (unless you can claim it back

How difficult is it to fit one of these things ? is their any wiring back into the loom etc etc ? I may be interested if it's easy enough to do.

Oh yes forgot to mention, what was the outcome of the 'Are Traders allowed to post if they are not helping to support scoobynet (via banner ads) thing ?' or does DRM have a banner anyway ?

(Can't remember and there's no list of banner ads on the board - which I think there should be BTW)

Well I'll let someone else sort it out

The prodrive kit consists of wiring loom, 2 lamps, fitting brackets and, I think, covers.

The lamps in the kit are PIAA 80 Pro XT models in the "driving" variant, which I guess is what DR are proposing - have mailed to check.

I already have the brackets (was ordering something from GGR at they're a tenner each - saves on separate postage) and the loom should be simple to sort out. A relay and a bit of wire - how difficult can that be (famous last words...)

Sounds like we've got the 6 then - perhaps 10 will see a greater discount

Nick.

Would it be a good idea to have one driving lamp and one pencil beam like the road rally drivers had years ago?

I can't speak for the kit, but the way that I will wire them is to:
This will give the ability to turn the driving lights on and off using the fog light switch. Lights will only activate on high beam with the fog switch on.

When I get the lamps, I can put another fitting page up if anyone's interested...

Does the kit include a facility to deactivate the "driving lights" from main beam (excuse my ignorance on the wiring front, but I notice that Scoobysport charge extra for a "de-activation kit" for the fog switch)?

Also, does anyone know how the spread of the PIAA lights compares to the that of the Cibie lights?

    Hi Guys,

Firstly we had already received the required numbers last night, within a few hours of us posting the prices. Thanks everyone.

All who have replied or E-mailed us, will receive a reply from us today.

    To answer a few questions;
The kit and lamps are exactly the same at the official Subaru dealership kit. Subaru take the exact same kit, add the 2 brackets that are needed, remove a small piece of plastic from the covers - so they fit in the tight space - we will mark the cut line on them!! They also originally altered the wiring slightly to make it easier to connect up, but PIAA now supply the lamp with a new stlye of loom, so this no longer applies. And thats it.

The new loom also has a PIAA over-ride switch for the lights, this could also be rewired with the standard fog lamp switch.

The kits come as Fog / Pencil Beam / Driving (the standard dealer type)

Chairk, the new wiring loom has
    1 earth from the battery
1 live from the battery - through 2 fused relays now
1 feed to the main beam circuit
1 over ride switch - already connected (this switch could be removed and reconnected through the fog lamp switch, to give what you need) but the new switch is pretty neat and I don't think to many will want to alter it.

If there are any more questions, please fire away.

    Cheers David

    Gary,

shouldn't be a problem. Personally I'm about as auto-electrical competant as a man with no arms, but thankfully I know a very good Auto Electrician (works for Donovans Auto Electrics in Gosport) who would fit them for both of us... probably cost you a score (thats what he usually charges for bunny jobs)

    Hi Guys,

Well we more than doubled our original target for orders, so thanks everyone. All these orders are going through just now.

We did receive a number of enquiries from interested customers who asked if we would hold the offer to the end of the month, for pay cheques to arrive.

So we will place another order for lights (at the same £235.00 price) on the 1st February. If anyone else is interested, please E-mail us at drmotorsport@lineone.net you still have time and you haven't missed out.

    Thanks David

    Karlos,

I've kept the offer open at £235 for now, so single orders are fine.

PIAA UK are awaiting more kits from Japan, they are due now, but still have to clear Customs. So you are looking at least a week or so for delivery.

I have had mine a while, but I haven't got a clue how to fit the wires and bits. I'm hoping Karlos comes through with his previous offer else I'm in the ****.

Most worrying bit for me is how to get the wires into the dash and connected to the fog light switch (instead of the override switch that comes in the kit). I assume my dealer would have fitted it like this ?

    Gary,
The wires from the lights should stay in the engine bay and go to a relay. IIRC drivng lamps can only be on when full beam is on. You can control the relay from the supply to the full beam in a headlight.
I would find a good auto electrician and pay them to wire them up if you arent sure. Shouldnt take them too long, and you're saving quite a bit with DR's offer.
