400/400+ Scooby what is it worth?
Thinking of a change....
Obviously it is worth more to me than the market would dictate, but how about a free car included for about the price of just buying the mods?
Silver UK Spec MY00 48000 mile aircon Registered Oct 2000
Modifications:
2.5 litre US block, 3000 miles - I've done the high power development work on a previous block, this one has been tuned cautiously from day 1 and run at only 1.2 bar with a 1.4 bar fun setting used occasionally, safely mapped to hold 1.6 bar though on Optimax, RCMS oil pump, Phase I tensioner, ported P1 heads, 740cc injectors, SX regulator, Walbro fuel pump, manifold spacers, exhaust manifold, uppipe, full 3" exhaust with resonator, Ecutek reflash, APS FMIC, AVC-R, APS induction with huge K&N cone, MRT turbo inlet pipe, STi rad cap, iON P450 Garrett hybrid turbo.
Six speed UK box purchased new from Subaru (Suretrac diff), Roger Clark 240mm AP organic clutch, RCMS/STi flywheel, STi quickshift, Momo gearknob.
P1 suspension new from Subaru, droplinks, rear ARB, anti-lift kit, front upper and lower strut braces, rear strut brace, bumpsteer removal, AP 4 pots - new AP grooved discs about to go on, new rear discs, recent Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 on Oz Superleggera 17" wheels.
Kenwood 5080R single slot CD player, Infinity 605CS front speakers, Kenwood KAC848 amplifier, uprated wiring, sound deadening.
Knocklink, boost gauge, wideband AFR, SPA fuel pres/air temp, SPA oil pres/temp.
Could split of course, but how about the car as well for the price of all the mods? Seems daft to sell it all for a lot of people to do similar. Could also include all the original Subaru bits except Subaru 4-pots and 2.0 longblock.

Someone is going to ask, so might as well be me. What next John?
Btw, sold my MY00 a couple of months back for a little over 8K, not quite the same car as yours though

This moved quickly, it isn't actually a for sale ad, just a question on value. If I put it up for £15k I think people would laugh, but the standard car should fetch £7k, and surprisingly the value of the mods would add up, just the hassle of removing them all, and more the hassle of selling and packaging them all.
What to replace with.... thinking E60 M5 or used 911 Turbo, or keep it and get an E39 M5 as a daily driver. As usual these days you can borrow far more than feels sensible, I'd have this, another car, £20K and whatever I want to borrow to put to the next one, but would be scared of the depreciation of the E60 to be honest, but I think the patients might think a 911 Turbo is a bit too flash. My practice partners run a Focus 2.0 Ghia and a Legacy 2.0 GL.... the one with the Focus got slagged off for having an old 944 Turbo before!! "Going up in the world are we doc?" Think I'd get away with a Beemer though as everyone has one now.

I have been thinking exactly the same John, I almost struck a deal on a skylne today.
My advice (IMHO) put it up for what you would like for it rather than what people on here think it is worth. Advertise elsewhere.
There are definately people out there that would love to own something special like this and will pay the money for it.
2p worth

kwakman, yes £15k is about the value of the mods!!
scoooby nut, thanks for the interest, not actually selling it yet, just asking the value, unfortunately the thread was moved to For Sale by the mods.
Thanks for the thoughts Rob.
Need to sort some test drives out without feeling like a scheming Chav going to test pilot fast cars that feel beyond my means

If you did decide to sell John I'd be interested. Fancy an upgrade to my current MY97 and after spending thousands to achieve 300bhp from the UK spec I'd consider myself to be a sympathetic purchaser (obviously appreciating how much has gone into this).
Bear me in mind. Think I'm local too.

Rob

15k! Ouch, thats alot of mods! But it is a well known car, and in the bigger scheme of things, what else are you going to get with that kind of reliable output on a light saloon with a chassis to cope for the price of a new mid-range mondeo? You might well get that much, the 'free car' angle is quite a convincing one.
Which boost setting gives the 400/400? What sort of straight line performance does that deliver? (Apologies if these questions have been answered extensively elsewhere).

Saloon. 1.2bar does about 400/380. 1.4 bar does about 440/410.
0-60 3.9, 0-100 8.7, 0-125 12.1 in the wet with a passenger running the higher boost on a smaller turbo with octane booster, this turbo does about the same without the octane booster.
E60 M5 is mid 9s to 100, E55 AMG or 911 Turbo is 10, E39 M5 is about 11 to 100, P1 is about 13, Classic about 14. These are all in the dry of course.
This makes me want to keep it

John, do as Steven says. Get something else and keep the Scoob
I have an SLK for the weekend car and the STI8 for everyday car and the Legacy as the track/bedding in car (Got the 2.65 in it currently). STI8 is going to be overhauled this Christmas and the Legacy returned to 300-350bhp track day fun thing that I don't care if I trash it. Then for work I got a 03 Astra TD Van
Just sold the SLK though and bought a Jaguar XKR 4.0 Supercharged Convertible. Fun isn't the word Looks like a million dollars, 20" Detroit Alloys, Comfy etc. etc. CATS Suspension is fantastic too. 85% torque from 2000rpm Grins all around. Near on 400bhp with a sports exhaust for it. Unlike the Scoob comes with decent brakes as standard too!
Depends if you want the convertible or not but the coupe looks stunning too IMO.
Just don't think about economy though
Jon.

Keep hold of it. Sounds like a great car and I would love it if funds allowed. I would say someone would be prepared to stump up something like £13k for something like that.
I have thrown about £8k at my my99 over the years and its probably worth £1000 more than a standard one now!!!!
I think the problem you would face is it puts it near to P1 money and more expensive than sti 6's etc. I would think there is a bigger market for something like a P1 than your car. However.... It may sell at £15k within weeks if the right chap came along! That's always what it is down to I guess.
TBH, although i would love a car of that spec and nearly put the same engine in mine last year, I think I would still go for a P1 or an Sti something or other.
I reckon, you have an ultimate spec car now, exactly how you want it and you should keep it for a while yet. I think if you have a practice and especially if you do calls a porker or M5 wouldn't go down well. I would have something like a passat or golf diesel to run alongside the scoob.

Been driving wife's Puma 1.7 this week (she has a company car but far prefers the Puma) as I'm waiting for a clicking CV joint to be done on the Scoob, handling is incredible, refinement and ride quite good, just has no real guts especially above 50 mph and feels a bit unstable in the wind or at high speed. However, this does stop me speeding. This I am sure is the TDi supermini equivalent, so no point selling this and getting that, the economy is 35 mpg anyway even driven purposefully. She'd love to keep this and we could both use it... I still fancy an E39 We'll see. I probably should keep the Scooby as it is a lot of fun and would be difficult to match for sensible money.

1/4 mile times?
Hi John, I'd be interested to know what would your car cover a standing start 1/4 mile in?
Also (boringly) mpg?
Could you use it as an occasional driver?
(I have a motorcycle for commuting/short trips)
If you're ever interested in a deal with a nice "steady" STI7 PPP let me
know :-)
Cheers,John

iirc , john's car at its one and only timed drag day , did a 12.2 at 121mph running a 60foot of over 2 seconds. this was in full road trim with spare , tools etc. it was quicker with the 5speed PAR gearkit but that failed before he did the 1/4 day.
