Did it ever occur to anyone, that it is people like us who drive prices down on this board?

How many times do people go on and say, "ooohh you wont get that much for that car, I have seen an xxxx for much less!"

Surely the more intelligent people will research a car and in so doing, look up sites like this on the internet, only to be told by us, that the prices are too high.

Why do we do this to ourselves?

Red face

Adam,
It takes a lot more than some price bashing on the net to drive down the prices. Too often people try to sell for what is silly money, its difficult to accept your car is worth less than you want.
The general 2nd hand car market is soft due to new car prices drops and exotica like Scoobys are further affected by insurance / fuel prices.
This is the same situation as early 90's when GTi prices got clobbered due to insurance hikes. No different, are you suggesting we should have our own internal market that ignores what everyone else is paying ? Thats called communism and is banned by SDB
Its purely a supply and demand situation, to blame it on anything else is accusing the symptoms of being the disease.
You only have to drive around these days to see how many scoobs are out there now. A few years ago they were rare, now they are anything but rare. Plus lots of negative articles from the press doesn't help either.

Regards
Cammy

a beautifully written reply cammy.

Obviously something is only worth what we are prepared to pay, but I still feel, we are only fanning the flames by adding our two bobs worth each time someone says, "you'll never get that much".

This is often before anyone has even had a chance to sell.

I know prices have dropped, but i still think we make it worse.

Lets test the principle again

Anyone want a late March MY01, Dutch, White (looks good... no really), 1900 miles, full SS system and downpipe, mobil 1, colour coded, ITG panel filter, full spec inc buckets, a/c etc. Price £2500 less than it has cost me....

£16,995

Wink

John,

Very good of you. I would knock off the petrol to get it back to Glasgow and the speeding fine for those freindly feds on the UK/Scotland border... call it £17,500

Scoobyebye

A word of warning for those thinking of importing. I have done it three times. First went OK ish, second was due August and never came by December, cost me a pretty penny in the courts. That is why I paid for a stock car this time. Watch out for the spec, hidden costs like - registration, transport from port to home, agents fees etc etc

The place that look after my car said that people were selling their cars for too little, and that the price of Jap spec cars had fell below the price you would pay to import one.

See !!!

Do the people who respond have some master plan to try to get this vehicle for cheaper, or is it simply that people can't resist pointing out that they think they know a man who can get one for much less

I found from my experience of buying an import that the £16k prices quoted always had a catch (spec or timing) and besides, would you want to drive an un modded MY01 and be beaten up bu MY99's
