This really is a unique car. And a very reluctant sale

When new this car was used in Japan as a motor show demo car. The car was then imported by Prodrive (have documentation to prove) and was the first ever STi in the UK. Originally, it had the full 555 rally decor (although this has now been removed, with the exception of the 555 mudflaps and STi roof aerial). The car was then passed from Prodrive to David Hendry Cars (Malmsbury) to sell, and where it has been well looked after since.

The car is an STi II:
34500 miles,
Full UK service history,
Rally Blue with High spoiler (v4),
16" Gold Speedline alloys,
I/C Waterspray,
Roof vent,
PIAA,
K&N induction kit (although still have original airbox and filter),
Full S/S Scorpion exhaust 4" tail,
Black Diamond front discs & Pagid pads,
Black Diamond S/S Braided hoses,
Alpine head unit,
Tracker,
Cat 1 alarm / immob,
Private 555 plate,
Still have 7 months warranty left.

Open to offers . . . .

Ian,

How are ya? Why you selling? I thought you you would keep this for a while? What's going to replace it?

New job beckons and somethings have to change...
Mine is also going for sale to be replaced with a P1.

Some more information on the car . . .

---------------------------------------------

Ian,

The cars we supplied to David Hendry were STI 2 as suggested. We are unsure of their background in Japan, but may have been pilot production models. This spec of car was fitted with the 275ps engine. Another car was also sent as a promo car for BAT at the same time and I believe these were amongst the first cars Imported from Japan, well before Grey Imports were a problem at all!!

Sorry I can’t be of more help, but it sounds like you know all the relevant facts already.

Regards,

Mike

Subject: Query

Apologies for the unsolicited mail, however, your receptionist gave me you email address.

I am trying to find out some history / details of my 95 Subaru Impreza STi II.

Now I appreciate that you would not normally be the people to talk to about imported Impreza’s, however, I have been told that Prodrive originally imported the car, with consent from Subaru UK. I believe that Prodrive actually imported two Subaru Impreza STi II in 1995, one was fully decked out as the 555 Carlos Sainz 1995 rally winner (this is my car), the other normal. The 555 Carlos Sainz car was apparently used in Japan as a press car, for promotional photo shoots before being shipped over here? Prodrive sold both cars to David Hendry Cars (Malmsbury, Wiltshire). The 555 car was sold and registered (as new) by David Hendry in October 1995 to its first owner.

The reason why I am trying to find out more about the car, is the Applied Model (as found under the bonnet) for this car is GC8C48D. The Applied Model for a STi II should be GC8C4ED (production SEP’95 - AUG’96). The model GC8C48D is actually for a WRX produced SEP’94 - AUG’95 and SEP’95 - AUG’96. Am I correct in thinking that this car is one of the first ever STi II, hence the conflict on Model number. I have spoken to David Hendry (where I also bought the car from) about this, but he is unable to help, but he is adamant that the car is a STi II and not just a WRX.

I would be most grateful if you could shed some light on this matter (or even if you have any more details on the car), or if you could point me in the right direction of someone who may be able to help.

Thank you in anticipation,

Yours,

Ian Waller.

---------------------------------------------

The car has only done one track day, although this was TRAX2000 and consisted of only 5 laps (due to other drivers going off the track ).

Paul,

How are you doing? Obviously not too bad if you are getting a P1

I was planning on keeping the car for a while, but unfortunately saving for a new house and two nice cars do not go well together, and the Scooby will net the most money back

Looks like it will be replaced by an Ibiza, its no Scooby, but it will have to do for now. It could be worse, it could be a Diesel!!!!!!

When are you getting your P1 then?

Ian.

Cool

Ian,

New house eh! I too shall be looking at a new house spring next year.

I start my new job in a week or so. I will wait a month and then put mine up for sale. So hopefully have a P1 within the next 2 months, maybe 3. Did you see my car in Marchs edition of Evo magazine? I was pleased with how good the car looked and had a great day with the photographer.

Will let you know how I get on. You gonna still frequent this board and are you still working for THF?

Good luck with the sale.

How the hell did you manage to get a reply from Prodrive???

My car has was registered to Prodrive when it was imported from Ireland in 98. I have been told they have upgraded/modified the vehicle but have no documentation (apart from the import/registration documents) regarding these upgrades.

I constantly bombarded them with emails, phone calls and letters including copies of the documents, details of when/where it was first reg'd in county Tyrone, all with S.A.E's and have I had one single reply???

Have I bollox!

TSL offered to attempt to get some info and have had no replies form about half a dozen emails and phone calls.

I am surprised that you managed to get ANYTHING from them!!!

Bryn,

Sorry, to hear of your lack of response. I have to say that I have found Mike Wood and others from Prodrive to be very friendly and helpful.

Soz it does have to be a uk one... I'm 25 (just) I picked my current insurer (Greenline) who were by far the cheepest for me, I did try all those other ones but they were £1200 + and I got my scooby quote for £800 (ish).
95 is a bit too old for what I'm looking for.. sorry.

Really is a shame that you have taken your car of the market as i have been looking for a decent Scooby for quite a while(3 long months) and yours appears to be quite a good one. I'm not to sure that it is quite in my price range although if you are still up for selling it in the future i would like it if you could let me know the approximate price you would be looking for!!!

Thanks CAM1
