You may all see a post in the 'Scoobynet General' forum soon regarding this but I recently took my Type R (R plate) in for a major service at a local garage and when I picked it up discovered the engine had blown. Garage reckon it's a bottom end (crankshaft shells) failure which suggests oil starvation. I'm still in wranglings re liability.
I had the car (which ran perfectly beforehand) for sale in classifieds recently for £10,500 (http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...&highlight=mr2) - anyone want to put in an offer as is???
Xtreme have quoted a warranted exngine rebuild at £3600 all in (and that's a quality rebuild with 3 month warranty!).
Someone could grab a bargain here...Engine had covered just 61k mile - gearbox is a bit worn so a 2nd hand box replacement would be a good idea at this stage too. Scoob has loads of extras though and was blindingly quick (before blowing up....) Variable diff etc worked a treat.

1 - Quite a few 2.5s seem to be blowing!
2 - Means telling insurance that its now a 2.5, so insurance goes up
3 - I wouldnt just put the 2.5 in without changing bits like fuel pump, oil pump etc and thats more money to shell out

Not having go, just saying why alot of people dont look at the US 2.5s

Thanks for all the PM's guys - keep em coming, someone could land a bargain here. Forgot to say - clutch seems to be ok now (the fluid was contaminated).

Cheers Tony. That's my guess too but proving it is something else. And guess what they've given me to drive the 130 mile round trip I do every day - 6 year old Toyota Starlet...it doesn't even have a radio!!

Bigsal - will do (probably later today).
Meanwhile, please keep the offers coming in - and thanks for all the genuinely nice thoughts and comments - this hasn't been easy for me but having the support from you guys does help.

Tony,
If only it was so easy...
I won't go into too much detail now but "conveniently" when the garage called me after 3 days to come and collect the car they said the mechanic had 'as a matter of routine' listened to the engine with a stethoscope and noted a slight knock in cylinder 3 which he thought may be the start of the crank shaft shells rupturing. They now say that they had pre-warned me of possible problems though it was only given verbally and only after the service had supposedly been performed.
I will be fighting this one but because I wish to move abroad soon anyhow (which is why the car was in for a major service anyway - to make it more saleable!) I need to shift it and then concentrate on the legal issues afterwards.
They also claim that because I drove the car off their forecourt (it is still driveable if you can put up with the noise!) then as 'last person to touch it' I am responsible, though how I'm supposed to tell an engine has blown by looking at the car on the forecourt in the dark without driving it is beyond me...I only got about 200-300 yards before turning it around and my tracker data proves this.
I'll post a full story on this in the 'general' forum in next few days - I just don't want to prejudice any legal action just yet.

Sorry guys - mailbox is filling up with offers by the hour nearly now - I've emptied again though so you should be able to pm again.
Apologies to those I haven't yet pm'd back - been a bit hectic at work but I have all your details and will give you all a quick ring.
Cheers,
Russ
