EJ257 short motor £400
Have an EJ257 which had a hairline cracked piston and lost the headgaskets. It was pulled out still running with good oil pressure and did not overheat as it just blew out some of the contents of the header tank.
Bearings seem fine, crank and rods look OK. Block appears good, the bore with cracked piston could benefit from a rehone. I have a few spare pistons to allow a repair which are included in the sale.
Would be advised to use new bearings, and piston rings, these are not included.
The mechanic that removed the engine loosened the conrod bolts on the rod with the damaged piston, and unfortunately on one of the others as well, but you would be using new bearings and splitting it to rebuild properly anyway.
Picture of the cracked piston here... the crown is oily from the small crack which you can just see in the lower right corner.
£400 ono plus P&P johnbanks@dsl.pipex.com

14000 miles. If you are good with a spanner then it could be a nice project. I did consider getting it built into a monster with forged pistons, but I really don't need to go any faster having had a sit in the back of a white BMW for a little chat about it today
