howdy!
my friend at work has offered to swap me my golf gti 1.8t 2000 reg (got 2.5" turboback, chipped, samco, bailey, lowered on apex springs, 18"rs4`s, recaro interior, 98k on the clock, full vw service history dyno`d at 220bhp) for his scooby wrx, 96 n reg, 68k, import, most history, recent cambelt tensioners etc. magnex cat back, bailey dv, says its 280bhp and timed 0-60 in 5.1 secs).
what do you guys think i should do.? are there any weakspots/engine code to look for and avoid? or shall i stick to my golf?

aah sorry didnt realise it was an sti. In that case id be a little up and down but even then i think id choose the golf. Although cars have depreciated rapidly in recent times, i think the scoob would have depreciated far more than the golf
I have a sti Version 5 and am always wary about the engine not letting me down etc etc. Its just one of those cars but with a golf i wouldnt feel the same as i know what german engineering is like. Currently own a PAssat n have had various VWs in the past

Stick with the Golf.
You'll find that most people think that Imprezas are reliable cars and if unmodified or slightly modded and kept very well with regular oil changes etc... they are, but sadly most Imprezas and specifically older Imports (because they can be had pretty cheap) have been neglected.![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Also, have you checked the insurance difference between your modified Golf and a modified MY96 STi, that may shock you!?
Cheers,
Grant
