Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi - Topaz Blue & 76k
The time has come to sell on my superb Peugeot 205 GTi. This example is a 1989 'G' plate 1.9 GTi with a rather cool number plate of G205*** and was purchased locally around 6 months ago. There have only been 2 previous owners of this car, both local, and neither of whom were 'boy racers'. The original owner was an older lady who used it for going to and from work every day, a massive total of 4 miles a day! This has contributed to the low mileage of only 76,500 and can be verified as every single MOT has been kept (that's only 5100 miles a year!!). I bought the car from a chap in his late 20's who was a 205 enthusiast and maintained the car regardless of cost (stacks of receipts to prove!).
The exterior is finished in Topaz Blue, a considerably rare colour when you consider it was only available as an option for the GTi for around 8 months (1989 'G' to 1990 'H') although the colour has always been available on the CTi version, go figure! The bodywork is in remarkable condition for a 15 year old car, with only a few light scratches and 1 parking ding. To enhance the exterior I recently had a set of the 15" Speedline alloys (not the SMR French replicas) professionally refurbished and fitting with new 195/50/15 Toyo T1-S's. The suspension has been left totally standard although if you wanted it lowered a little that can be arranged (I personally prefer a 205 lowered around 30mm). The optional front mud flaps were fitted from the factory and I have a set of genuine rear mud flaps to fit, complete with the GTi badges. As with nearly every other 205 this one also has a glass sliding sunroof, though not the factory order one but the aftermarket factory roof, basically means once they took delivery of the car the original owners went back to Peugeot and asked them to fit a sunroof.
The interior is fitted with the usual spec for a 1.9 model; central locking, electric windows and half leather seats. The seats are the phase 2 spec black leather with black/red checked insets and are in very good condition with no rips/tears/burns etc. The drivers seat outside edge is showing some signs of wearing though as you can see in the pictures there are no holes or broken stitches and are again in great shape for a 15 year old car. Also fitted are genuine 'GTi' floor mats that were available though Peugeot, the drivers is fairly worn and the passengers is in good condition, a nice feature to still have though. The dash and interior trim is phase 1 spec grey (this car is in fact a phase 1.5 where Peugeot used phase 1 interior trim with phase 2 seats) and is in mint condition with no marks/cracks and doesn't rattle in the slightest! This car has NEVER been smoked in with the ashtrays and lighter have NEVER been used. The standard Clarion Radio/Cassette head unit has been replaced with a Pioneer CD/Radio head unit.
Having only covered 76,500 miles the engine is in good condition with no rattles or smoke. It doesn't use any oil or water and runs with excellent oil pressure, oil temperature and water temperature. Everything on the engine is 100% standard and as it should be, last serviced around 2/3 months ago by myself replacing the usual items (oil/plugs/leads/dizzy cap and arm etc.). It pulls well and cleanly up through the gearbox with no problems. The previous owner had replaced the Clutch in November 2004 and the Cambelt/Waterpump in February 2005 along with the dreaded 'rusty waterpipe' that goes on all 205's. There are stacks of receipts on this car showing the meticulous way each person has looked after it while in their ownership.
Driving the car really is where all the careful ownership in the past has paid off, it seriously drives like new! Everything is smooth, quiet and crisp. The ride is comfortable, the steering positive and reactive, acceleration responsive and the handling as you'd expect from possibly the best handling hot hatch ever produced. A test drive is a serious MUST!
Over all this is an excellent example of a desirable hot hatch from the late 80's and will bring a grin to the face of any Peugeot enthusiast or perhaps someone looking to rekindle the old '205' flame from years gone by. It is an honest car, with an honest history looking for an enthusiastic new owner to continue the careful ownership she's already had.
The car is located in Cheltenham, Glos (junction 11 of M5) and is available for viewings at any time. All pictures were taken on the 15th October 2005.

I know... well they are looking to get it as a run about for the wife and despite her wanting a Topaz Blue 205 GTi they are a little worried about buying a 15 year old car! They won't find a better one and they also looked at the £1800 Topaz on Autotrader yesterday and apparently it's full of filler etc. so they walked away from that without even driving it!
Had an email from a 205 Collector so hopfully he'll snap it up
