Default MY96 WRX Import V-Limited (10.98 Quarter!)

Stop reading if you want all show & no go.

Carry on reading however if you want a fairly stock looking WRX that did 10.98 on the quarter mile recently - yes, I did type that time down properly at 10.98 ! It has only ever gone up the strip ONCE in it's life in the UK & it did this time on stock tyres & no Nos! You have to spend shed loads of cash to get this time out of a motor.

My Subaru is a WRX Import (MY96), V-Limited edition no. 0947 out of 1000, imported 8 months ago from Japan by my mate but I swapped my 1967 Chevrolet Camaro to get this off him a short while ago. Last October he had a broker import a very special model that had some serious internal engine modifications but kept a stock look on the outside. I'm a novice when it comes to Subarus as my love is for american V8s hence the sale (but I had it off him anyway as it was too good a deal to miss & the ride is truly awesome) so answers to questions are probably limited. When I first got the Scooby I did the obligatory traffic light races with a few cars like you do but soon got bored when nothing beat it so don't bother anymore. I did some checking on some UK quarter mile websites & only a few WRXs have gone quicker (mostly owned by performance rally teams - please correct me if I'm wrong).

It is dark blue, gold wheels on Bridgestones, quickshift gear change, massive exhaust system, Pipercross induction, massive functional rear spoiler set up for more downforce at present (original low blue one with integrated tail-light is included in sale), everything works inc. aircon, retractable mirrors, Sony MP3 CD player e.t.c e.t.c. Just had new front brake discs & pads last week. Unrestricting 112mph adaptor also included. Has 6 months Mot & Tax left on it. The interior is in mint condition & there are a couple of chips on the boot lid due to the spoiler change.

As with all Imports there is hardly any history with my Scooby but due to it's nature this is a rare animal indeed & such an issue would not put off the serious buyer anyway. I would recommend if you know nothing about Subarus then to bring a clued up Subaru lover to inspect it over.

Please do not bother enquiring if you :
a) Have 9 points on your licence
b) Are under 25 (unless you own an insurance co. & have track experience)
c) Become easily frustrated when unable to find anyone who can keep up
d) Have had no experience of driving except in Novas, Corsas & XR3is
e) Expect the price to be the same as a stock UK MY96 found in your local Autotrader

Absolutely any mechanical checks & tests on it are welcome unless you are a mechanical imbecile or look a sandwich short of a picnic . If I think you're serious & it's a deal-breaker then I'll either take it up the quarter to prove it or put it on a rolling road if all you think about is BHP (n.b: I don't care much for BHP as it's usually the limitations of the driver rather than the car that makes a car quick).

Send me your email address for Jpeg pics. if interested. Reasonable offers will not be refused as I need to get back to some american muscle very quickly before this Subaru converts me for life as it is fantastic! Thanks .

(n.b: users may query my user name. It's RRChevy because I've simply put a 330bhp Chevy small block V8 into a stripped out manual Range Rover !)

i am under 25, i do have insurance.... (04 WRX with 310/300)

and i doubt it can do 10.98 in 1/4 mile, post some pics of the engine m8, and the list of mods.... you will need at least 400+ to get 10.98...

Yes there is - about 7 seconds difference !

i am under 25, i do have insurance.... (04 WRX with 310/300)

Hello DrEaM - I'm not saying you can't get insurance. This is not a slur on the under 25s. The innuendo to my insurance comment was only intended to deter any buyers who are young, never had a sports car & don't check insurance costs prior to purchasing one as it can be prohibitively expensive. I don't want someone buying this & killing themselves within a week of having it or find out they just have to sell the car they've just bought as they can't afford the insurance cost (it gets cheaper when you're over 25).

and i doubt it can do 10.98 in 1/4 mile, post some pics of the engine m8, and the list of mods.... you will need at least 400+ to get 10.98...

Sounds like someone has an inferiority complex. The mate I swapped my Camaro for this Subaru with is the guy who drove it up the 1/4 & got this time. He has probably done more 1/4 mile runs than you've had hot dinners as he builds hotrods & street-strip cars for a living (hence my comment about it's mainly the driver, not the car! I readily admit that I'd be much slower than him in this car as I'm not as good but the time of 10.98 is genuine). He has a 8 second 1/4 mile Camaro which he built with his own hands & knows what he's talking about. In the ad I also said I will PROVE the time to any serious buyer up the 1/4 as my mate will drive it again if need be which he has agreed to or I will put it onto a rolling road (before anyone parts with their hard-earned money!).

Just one question though: why are pics of the engine relevant? As any engine builder knows, the most important parts such as the camshaft, pistons & head work determine the real power levels that can be achieved & are all on the inside. Hence my comment that it's had 'serious internal engine modifications'. I do not know about any engine mods as I pointed out in the ad because they were done in Japan & there is no history.

Pics will be added tomorrow - alternatively, go to my mate's website at www.uniquecustomcars.com & click on the Jap car section when inside as this is the Subaru I have (n.b: the rear wing you see is no longer on the car as it sports an even bigger functional one!)

That was for sale on Ebay recently and said nothing about being a 10 second car?

Hi Nezz10 - yes it was listed by my mate 3 months ago on that horrible website but that was BEFORE he did the 1/4 as he didn't realise just how quick it was. He's never had a Subaru before so had nothing to compare it to in the first place.
Hence, everyone looking at the auction details thought it was a std car that was just hyped up, like 99% of them are on that site, & without any history I can undertsand the scepticism. So they only expected to pay the going rate for a stock MY96 & it didn't meet it's reserve! I'm not trying to hype this car as it will speak for itself - I must reiterate that he is a very good driver with loads of 1/4 mile experience so 10.98 is probably right on the limit of the car's ability & it'd need more mods to go any quicker.

As stated several times before, any potential purchaser will have the choice of proof before he parts with any money whatsoever (1/4 mile or RR at MY expense) - how clearer can I be on this point.

Hi Fab - pics. will be posted tonight when I get back from work. As I said before there is hardly any history with the car as it's an Import & I know absolutely nothing about Subarus (know shed loads on Chevy small blocks but pretty irrelevant here) - tell me where to look & I'll get codes/names off the parts if possible.

Is there anyone in the East Grinstead/A22 area who knows a lot about Subaru parts - I can drive over, buy you a couple of bevvies for your time & see if you can recognise any parts on the car so I can list them on here?

Chevy - To gain more serious interest you really need to let buyers know what they are getting....

For example, what turbo are you using and at what boost. What fuel pump, regulator and controller are you using. Does it have a CDB engine code on the block. What ECU is in there, is it using a front mount intercooler (I cant see one) what sized injectors (colour of the top), what boost controller etc etc.... There are plenty of details you could give with listing the internals.

Not trying to have a go mate but as a potential buyer I would be put off by thge lack of detail you currently have

I can host some pics if you want to promote your sale or go to www.photobucket.com where you can get upload them for free!

Look for codes/makes on the turbo TD04/TD05/TD06 IHI, Garrett etc etc
List the codes on the engine block EJ20XXX, EJ22XXX , EJ25XXX etc

If you put up some pics people will recognise that parts for you.

I reckon you could squeeze a bigger wing on that boot lid if you tried harder

Good luck with the sale

they are important as you will need other supporting mods that "are" visible to support any internal mods....

if the engine bay is shown and there is a standard intercooler nestling there, then its not possible.....its simple enough.

No pics yet as I've just got back late from work (2.30am!) so bear with me. Had a quick look in engine bay just now with big torch (neighbours probably think I'm trying to steal it) & looks like a draw so far between me & the doubting Thomases.

Engine code is EJ20 with markings like rows of little boxes joined together above oil filter area which, researching previous threads, I believe indicates it's a CDB (good).
Also looked underneath & it's not just a flashy backbox - the exhaust is at least 3" ID the whole way up & looks like ally or SS as no surface rust whatsoever (good).

The intercooler looks nothing special at all & is not front mounted. Looks like just an upturned small black finned rad at top by bulkhead (not good).

Awaiting daylight for further investigation (there is a sticker on rhs of engine half way down saying 6G-TY752VB4AA if this means anything to anyone??)

I thought a standard top mount intercooler was only good upto 300bhp or is it 350 bhp???? Dubious 10 second quarter mile to me, I'd wana see more pics and more spec info.

Sorry I don't buy it!

maybe it was being towed by the 8sec camero????????

would like some more info on the engone spec? if you are wanting more money than a standard car is worth then i suggest getting a rolling road done and poss proof of the 1/4 time, might be worth taking it to a scooby specialist near you and getting them to give you the spec of the car!

Hi B9LGY - that's exactly what I've been trying to do the last two days as I can't make out where half the parts are on this car net alone get the codes off them to keep you lot amicable (I'm used to just having a big Carb on my engines, not Turbos/Sensors/ECUs e.t.c).
Please remember I have nothing but adulation for the Subaru & admire the awesome power achieved by such a small capacity engine but it feels like you need a PHD in computer studies (it'd also help to be a gymnast to work on it).

Need help finding 4wd RR in the South-East - tried about six RRs now & all are for 2WD vehicles only - can anyone assist?
In regard to getting proof of a 1/4 mile time I'm contacting my mate to see if he can make the Pod on Sunday week for the Japshow RWYB (anyone else going from here?).

At the end of the day I said it did 10.98 with a pro at the wheel so in everyday talk then it's more like a 11 sec & not 10 sec car as it won't get any quicker than this. If on the day it does 13 secs then I'll put my hands up, be humiliated for eternity & go off to get my Camaro back! If however it does 11 then will I get an apology?! Hmmmm........

Right, if anything that spoiler would slow it down!

Anyone in thier right mind would have documented the mods and it would have been sold with the car. 2 days to get info that prooves it does 10sec quarter mile is well suspect.
