Question

My employer is selling off ex-company cars, and one of these is a Subaru Impreza Turbo. Spec is:

1999 V
44,000 miles
4-door
White
Black leather interior
Air con

It comes with full service history, plus 12 months MoT, mechanical breakdown insurance, etc.

Asking price is £11,999, which is not negotiable.

Is this a good price, or should I look elsewhere?

Any advice appreciated - I have to give them an answer on Monday morning.

Ive just paid 9k for an MY97 P with 51 on the clock, according to the book its a good price but in the real world I would say that its about the going rate.

hope this helps

Sounds like a fair price but not a bargain in todays market. Mileage is well above average and the trade generally don't like white cars when you want to sell it. If might be worth phoning your local Subaru dealer and seeing how much they would buy the car in for.

Cheers,

Ian.

A fair price I'd say, at a subaru dealer it would be up at £14.5k probably, and they'd justify the price with leather and air, privately £12k sounds about right really. some MY99's have gone for below £11k, but as far as I know no V reg ones. Can you haggle on the price, it being high miles and white? Do you know the history of the car and who was driving it? Some of the cars that age suffered from hesitation which subaru won't fix , it is worth asking the driver if they had any problems.

Thinking about it a dealer would probably bid around £10.5k. Also just checked www.parkers.co.uk -99v impreza, 44k, Trade £10280, A1 £12340, Good £11690, Fair £10530.

Many thanks to all who replied.

We decided to buy the car. Although it's not a stunning price, we did have the assurance that the car was honest and had never been stolen or crashed. It also came with 12 months mechanical warranty breakdown.

Now you can look out for all the questions which we'll be asking about the car :-)
